WHAT IS ENVIRONMENT ?

The terms environment meaning surrounding. Our environment is the entire

web of biological and physical interaction. Which characterized the relationship
Between life and earth. This includes living and non-living things around us .

Non – living component – land, water, air and sun light.

Living component- green plants, human , animal, germs and decomposer.

“Look deep into nature, and than you will understand everything better”
(Albert Einstine)
Biological Diversity (Biodiversity)
Variability among living organisms from all sources, including, inter alia,
terrestrial, marine and other aquatic ecosystems and the ecological complexes of
which they are part; this includes diversity within species, between species and of
ecosystems.
or
Biological diversity, or the shorter "biodiversity," (bio-di-ver-si-ty) simply means
the diversity, or variety, of plants and animals and other living things in particular.
area or region.
Known species:
61% insects (10,25,000 species) of total known species
Mammals : 4,650 species
Birds: 9,700 species
Reptiles: 7,150 species
Fish: 26,959 species
Plants: 2,70,000 species

What is climate change
 climate change refers to the changes in the long-terms climate o climate
Or change in the average weather for a particular location.

Climate change Is the study of the interaction between climate change

and biology, both the effects of climate change on organisms and the
feedback from ecosystems to climate.

1.Rising temperatures

2.Snow and rainfall patterns are shifting

3.Heavy rainstorms and record high temperatures

Climate change ecology
 The Earth’s climate is changing. Temperatures are rising, snow and rainfall
patterns are shifting, and more extreme climate events—like heavy rainstorms
and record high temperatures—are already taking place. Scientists are highly
confident that many of these observed changes can be linked to the climbing
levels of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in our atmosphere, which are
caused by human activities.

Endangered species
House Sparrow populations declined by over 3.5 percent between
1966 and 2010, resulting in a cumulative decline of 81 percent, according
(for rapidly declining bird populations, which pose global conservation concern).

Now sparrow can be seen only in rural areas.

The modern house designs do not provide
space Where sparrows can build a nest and
rise a family.
What we can do for save this beautiful bird sparrow

Providing home -: by simple hanging a shoes-box in your balcony.

Drill a hole in it, about 4 cm in diameter and sparrow will take to it as their nest.

Providing food -: keep broken rice, Bajra , an open space.

providing water-: keep water in bowl or plate during summer.

INTRODUCTION
Basically I developed the patch basic principal of life science. i.e.

“Ecological succession.” MEANS STARTING FROM mosses and lichen and ending up into
climax community. And this climax community ( tree) helping to sustain the lower
community (small plants).

1.I used everything which was decomposable and organic. I used biomass, cow dung.
Because the patch was totally barren. I covered the patch with cow dung.

2.This helped land to retain moisture and in turn increased the fertility of land
ultimately leading to outstanding floral growth. Slowly with passage of time my
experiments with various variety of flora.

3. I was able to develop or cultivate the various species of high altitude plants of
1200 feet at an height 4500 feet feet’s successfully propagated them by creating
microclimate conditions.
Aim of mixed forest
 Conservation of different plant species which are growing in higher Himalaya.

 Providing fuel and fodder for rural women's in nearby , because the Himalayan
women goes in long distance to get fuel and fodder.

 Generate economy with environment conservation.

 Use of barren land.

 Conservation of endangered plant species of Himalaya.

 To give a natural habitat for wildlife.

 Generate ecological services.

 Ex-situ and in –situ conservation..

Conserve the water and recharge damaged water resources.

Fern species in mixed forest
What affects where ferns will grow?

There are several factors that adult ferns

need to survive (ignoring pests or disease):
moisture in the soil;
moisture in the air;
suitable nutrients in the soil
sufficient light for photosynthesis
suitable temperatures
protection from wind
protection from too much sunlight
protection from freezing; and dependability
and continuity of the previous requirements.

organic Compost .
Benefit of pit technology

1. Conservation of soil.

2.Recharge water resources .

1. Reduced drought.\

4.Control soil erosion.

Organic compost preparation method
Nowadays in agriculture organic compost has became the best solution to increase soil
fertility.

How to prepare . make a pit , height should be 3ft and the length 5 ft.
And fill it with mixed trees leafs and animal manure. Again covered it by using pit soil , for
One month. The organic compost will be ready to use in one month.

(mixed forest leaf + animal manure + soil +small amount of H2o)

it is helpful in reducing carbon.
Succession
Natural succession is a process in which a biotic community forms on a lifeless or
relatively lifeless piece of ground.

Kinds of succession
Primary succession:- lichen are fungi that grow on rock and slowly erode
their surface. In this photo taken I mixed forest. The green plants are the mosses
that have established a foothold on the rock.

Secondary succession: - secondary succession is long term repair process

that takes place after an ecosystem is destroyed by natural human cause.
Its occurs more rapidly than primary succession because there’s generally
no need to form soil.
Phenomena of succession

Rain water harvesting

Any pice of land anywhere can be used to harvest rainwater, the fundamental
reason is to extend the fruits of the precipitation. The fundamental principle is
to catch water where it falls.

Benefits of rainwater harvesting

1.Increases water availability
2.Check the declining level of water table and improves the quality of groundwater
through the dilution of fluoride, nitrate, and salinity.
3.Prevents soil erosion and flooding especially in urban areas.
4.Recharge aquifers.

now a fresh reservoir of water
flows from my mixed forest.

“Over the years the biodiversity found in my

reservoir of water .
Today the wildlife and local community are
all benefiting this new freshwater reservoir.

Using traditional methods we

conserve water because this is
the best way to protect water

are so important for

Recharge Ground Water
Mixed forests maintain the moisture in the land.
During rain, mixed forests store water and then release it into
the underground Aquifers .
In areas where the water resources have been damaged, mixed forest should
be introduced, this will recharge the aquifer within 1 year.
Mixed forests maintain the moisture in the land.
CONSERVATION OF WILDLIFE

The rich biodiversity of mixed forest attracts a wide variety of wildlife

from mammals to birds and insects. They are protected and nourished
by it and they are also part of managing and maintaining it.
