Procedure:
1. T. greets Ss., asks for absentees, asks about Ss. mood.
2. T divides the class in 2 groups. T tell Ss that they are going to play Hangman. T is going to write
on the board words and the groups are going to take turns in uttering letters, trying to guess the
words. To establish the group which will start, a representative from each group will throw the
dice, and the higher number will be the first group to say a letter. If the letter is correct, the group
continues, until they make a mistake. Then, it is the others group’s turn. The group with the most
words guessed is the winner.
3. T. tells Ss that the words from the game are words that they are going to use in the next activities
and that they are going to practice Past Tense Simple and Past Perfect.

ACTIVITY 2
Aim: to practice Past Tense Simple and Past Perfect in context – in a movie
Procedure:
1. T tells Ss that they are going to watch a short Mr. Bean movie, but before that, they have to put
some sentences in the order they believe to happen in the movie:
Mr. Bean took a number ticket and sat down.
Mr. Bean threw the doll of a girl who was queuing.
They couldn’t open the ambulance doors because Mr. Bean parked behind it.
Everyone saw Mr. Bean’s hand in the teapot and laughed.
Mr. Bean threw his ticket away. He got his hand stuck in the bin. He took a ticket with his teeth.
Mr Bean pinched one of the men’s bottoms. The men started fighting.
The old man walked towards the chair. Mr. Bean ran around the table and sat down.
Mr Bean slept. His number was called. He dropped his ticket on the floor.
Mr Bean tried to steal his ticket. The old man woke up.
Mr Bean turned the number display over. The receptionist talked on the phone.
2. T and Ss watch the movie to check.

ACTIVITY 3
Aim: to practice Past Tense Simple and Past Perfect
Procedure:
1. T gives Ss worksheet containing sentences from the movie, in the order they appear in the movie
and tell Ss that they have to try to combine the pairs or groups of sentences into true sentences. To
do so they need to remember which thing happened first or if they happened at the same time, and
so maybe change some tenses, change the punctuation and add words such as adverbs.
They couldn’t open the ambulance doors. Mr Bean parked behind it.
The girl queued. Mr Bean threw her doll.
The men started fighting. Mr Bean pinched one of the men’s bottoms.
Mr Bean took a number ticket. He sat down.
The old man walked towards the chair. Mr Bean ran around the table and sat down.

If necessary, T and Ss watch the movie again to check.
2. T gives Ss a worksheet with exercises based on Past Tenses. T and Ss check.
