• After the trifurcation of Vellore district into Vellore, Ranipet and Tirupattur
last year, the Navlock Farm and Horticulture Garden near Ranipet became
part of the newly-formed district.
• Hence, it was decided a new biodiversity park would be set up in the
Vellore district boundaries to ensure availability of quality seeds for farmers
at subsidised rates and to safeguard native tree and plant species.
• World class facilities have been planned for visitors and their stay at the
park and it is being expected to improve tourism in the district, he said.
• species of trees categorised according to climate and a section of the park
will be dedicated to sthala vrikshas,  monumental trees found in South
Indian temples.
• Besides, endangered flora will be maintained through a germ plasm centre,
which will also have a host of tourist-related activities. The proposed park
will also raise nurseries for coconut and paddy in addition to lime, mango,
guava, chikku, pomegranate, jackfruit and kodukapuli varieties, he added.
•  To sustain availability of Siddha and Ayurveda-related plant species, the
park will have a herbal garden where such herbs and plants will be grown.
• Hence, in a bid to attract tourists and simultaneously ensure availability of
quality seeds for farmers
• The highlight of the park would be taking up planting according to the star
sign of individuals. Based on information, visitors can undertake planting of
saplings related to their star sign and thereby increase green cover in the
State,

• The most striking feature of the park is that it is the largest state park in the
state which covers about 85 acres of land. For example, the State Botanic
Gardens are 55 acres, Ooty Rose Garden 10 acres, the Coonoor Sims Park
area is 30 acres and the Yercaud park is only 20.50 acres.
• The park is set to be equipped with artificial fountains, pools, children's
playgrounds, small children's cars and battery operated cars. All the existing
trees, newly planted trees, all the plants have their names inscribed in
Tamil, English and Hindi.
• A seed bank will be developed and maintained by planting these trees and
plants to protect the plants from destruction.
