Тема: To buy or not to buy.

Aims:

 to provide assimilation during the lesson new words by the pupils, to develop their skills
in speaking.
 to develop attention, thinking, memory, guessing.
 to promote love to animals and the desire to save them.

1. Организационный момент. Введение в тему урока, определение целей.
- Good morning, dear boys and girls. How are you today? Who can tell me what is the date
today? And what’s the weather like today?
-Do you usually buy souvenirs when you go somewhere? What are these souvenirs?
-What do you think is our today’s topic?
-Today we will discuss some tips which can help us to save animals.
- What should we do to achieve that?
We are going: - to learn new words
- to read the text about how can we save animals in easy way
- to discuss why is it so important to be “green” and save animals.
Речевая разминка. Развитие фонетических навыков.
- Ex 1a p 231. – Listen to the tongue-twister. Follow in the book. What sound is repeated?
- Read it as fast as you can.
- Let’s read more words with this sound, repeat after me.

2. Основная часть. Введение новых лексических единиц.

-Before we start, I want to introduce you some new words.


Ex. 2a p. 232. Let’s read the dictionary definitions of the words coast, shore, beach in
pairs.
-Look at the board, please. Here you can see the words with the transcriptions and the
pictures. Let’s match the pictures with the words. Who wants to try? Your task is to take
one picture and put it near the word. (pictures + words on the board)

- Work in groups, please.
- First group, you are to make up phrases with these words. Use help box.
Light, station, flat, climate, sandy, empty
Shore light – береговой огонь/свет
Shore station – береговая станция
Flat coast – ровный берег
Coast climate – приморский климат
Sandy beach – песчаный пляж
Empty beach – пустой берег

- Second group will write the words in the correct order to make sentences.

This / sandy/ is very/ beach (This beach is very sandy)
On/ the/ my/ house/ is/ coast (My house is on the coast)
She/ runs/ coast/ along/ the/ every morning (She runs along the coast every morning)

- Third group, you are going to translate sentences into English.


We walked along the beach.

He lives on the coast.

Let's go for a drive along the coast.


Давайте поедем на машине вдоль побережья.

She began to swim to shore.

-Good, I see that you understand the meanings. Let’s get back to our exercise. You are
to choose the correct word for the sentences.
 We could see beautiful white sailing boats about a mile from the shore.
 The west coast of Australia is washed by the Indian Ocean.
 In summer people love sunbathing on the beach.
 Belarus is a landlocked country because it has no coast.

Развитие навыков чтения.

Предтекстовый этап.
- Ex 3a p 232. There are two words missing in the rules for animal lovers below. Fill in
either always or never. Work in groups. Boys will choose sentences with always, girls
with never.
1) Never buy things like ivory, bone souvenirs, tortoiseshell, feathers or shells.
2) Always buy something that the local people produce without using animals.
3) Never take a piece of coral reef home with you.
4) Never touch coral reefs.
5) Never visit small private Zoos.
6) Never make animal suffer.
7) Always go on a photo safari.
8) Never leave litter on the beach.
Текстовый этап.
- ex 3b p 233. Let’s check how many of these tips for animal lovers have you done
correctly.

Послетекстовый этап.
- I want you to be divided into 3 groups.
- The first group will be tourists, the second will be activists and the third group will be
reporters.
- The first group will think about what tourists can say about our country. The second will
think about how can we help our country to be better. The third group will think about
the questions they might ask to people who live in Belarus.

Report your answers.

3. Заключительный этап. Подведение итогов, объяснение домашнего задания,


выставление отметок.
- Do you consider yourself as a good tourist? Why? Why not?
- Is it easy to save animals? Will you follow the tips we have learned in future?
So, our lesson is almost over.
- Please, give me your home tasks you’ve done for today.
- Let’s write down your home task for the next lesson.
o If you want 7-8, you should write 6-8 sentences about the tips how can we save
animals.
o If you want to get 9-10, you should write an essay about the question “Is it easy
to save animals” and report your answer next time.
