OVERVIEW

The study is all about applying and translating

the constructivism teaching and learning
paradigm into architecture, developing a
student-centered tertiary higher educational
institution in Mandaue. The study aims to
provide a solution to the development of a
campus for Mandaue City College to meet its
needs and requirements for state college
conversion and to elevate the quality of its
built environment through the integration of
CHED-mandated OBE standards and the
translation of constructivist teaching and
learning approach into architecture.
Constructivism is a theory which emphasizes
that knowledge is constructed by individuals
through linking the past experiences of the
existing knowledge and the new ideas to
create and have a thorough understanding
(Bransford et al., as cited in Brame 2009). The
theory has important implications on the
school’s built learning environment on how a
particular space can be reconfigured to
encourage conducive learning environment.
