2 Do’s and Don’ts (Golden safety rule)
Following is the list of `Golden Rules’ to be remembered by all while working in Alkylation
Complex:
As the intent of this list is “to understand and to remember” each of these `do’s and don’ts’ for each
person working in the area.
The list of “Golden Rules” and “Do’s and Don’ts” to be displayed at pre-defined strategic locations.
It is for easy reference and for ease of remembering and compliance by all.
For effective communication, the list will be prepared in English and Hindi and as far as possible
with `picture/photo’.
2.1 DO's
1 Do positive isolation for every mechanical job involving any equipment.
2 Do restore the end blinds at every LPD and vent after each such activity
3 Do expect splash of liquid while opening of flanges and during de-chocking.
4 Do make sure that pump is filled completely before starting.
5 Do wear full face shield along with all mandatory PPEs while opening any flange.
6 Do allow any work to start, only after necessary PPEs with all.
7 Do use /fill correct check sheet for each activity to be carried out.
8 Do write in the log book/sheet, only after completion of the activity
9 Do dismantle and check the `critical check valves/valves’ at every opportunity
10 Do start each job, with discussion of risks and mitigation
11 Do `kick-start’ the motor, before putting `DO NOT OPERATE’ tag.
12 Do use standard valve key for operation of hard valves
13 Do attend the `hard valves’ (valves hard to operate) promptly
14 Do close the permit only after checking `housekeeping completion’
15 Do ask/recheck/verify when in doubt
16 Do understand purpose of each item we find in the field
17 Do understand and respect `safety interlocks’ provided
18 Do report every `near miss, unsafe condition, unsafe act’.
19 Do think twice before `closing’ “Normally Open” valve
20 Do know the exact location of nearest “Manual Call Point”

21 Do know the exact location of nearest “Fire Extinguisher”


22 Do know the exact location of nearest “Eye Wash and Safety Shower”
23 Do check that `escape route’ is clear, before starting any job.
24 Do observe `traffic rules’ all the time
25 Do use `tested hose’ all the time
26 Do insist for use of `appropriate tools’ all the time
27 Do understand the purpose/intent of the activity and check that the intent is met: e.g.
`Closing a valve’ is activity, `stopping the flow’ is intent. It is possible that valve is closed
but flow is not stopped. Check that flow is stopped.
28. Look for soaked insulation and replace it on urgent basis. (Precautions during opening
flanges/blinding/deblinding etc.)
29. Monitor health of heat tracing meticulously.
30. Maintain all safeguarding equipment in good condition
31. Do check preparedness (checklist) before starting any job
32. Review the Special Procedure (Shutdown/startup, catalyst change etc.) each time for
improvement in operation

2.2 DON'Ts
1 Do not leave open `drain or vent’ unattended.
2 Do not charge acid to any system containing water and vise-a- versa
3 Do not start the pump unless it is completely primed.
4 Don’t spray water on acid spill.
5 Do not hand over the pump to mechanical unless it is drained completely.
6 Do not put `DO NOT OPERATE’ tags, on LPBS without trying `kick-start’
7 Do not `blindly’ follow instructions
8 Do not bypass safety interlock without following `procedure’
9 Do not ride a bicycle, holding things in your hand
10 Do not use mobile in operational area / restricted area
11 Don't proceed for any work unless you are 100% sure about the same.
12. Don’t take up any job, unless you are trained, validated and authorized.
13. Do not implement any change (Man/Machine/SOP/SOC/Material) without approval

2.3.1 Training /Validation : Do not up the job unless you have been trained & authorized for
carrying out activity

2.4 Safety pause :Look listen feel and proceed

2.5 Risk Assessment: Risk assessment to be done before starting any work.

2.7 PPE Position: Always keep the PPE at defined place after completion of any work.
2.8 Fall from height: Common reason
 Grill not fixed
 Cut out on a floor not properly cover
 Life safety belt not used
 Plate form is not ready to use
 Proper grating not provided
