Good morning and welcome to the region’s launching of the 2020 Census
of Population and Housing spearheaded by the Philippine Statistics Authority.

As we all know, PSA is mandated to conduct a census of population and

housing every ten (10) years. With reference to the first census in 1903, this
year’s CPH will be the 15th census of population and 7th census of housing in the
country.

The CPH will provide us, government planners, policy makers, and
administrators, with population and housing data on how to best allocate limited
resources for our social and economic development. We in the government will
also need the results of the CPH 2020 in formulating plans, policies, and programs
to ensure that these plans, policies and actions are truly responsive to the
people’s needs. I am also sure that the private sector, the academe, business
groups and even the media would be interested on the information gathered
through the CPH.

However, this year proved to be a challenging one. The COVID-19

pandemic has stalled, if not crippled, a lot of our plans. For one, it has significantly
impacted the schedule of activities of this year’s CPH.

So, I laud the PSA’s efforts in coming up with different approaches to

address the limitations brought about by the pandemic. We appreciate the work
that our hardworking colleagues in the PSA have put in place to ensure that the
2020 CPH will push through this year despite this pandemic. I urge everyone to
cooperate and participate in the 2020 CPH.

May I end by expressing our warm welcome to all. Congratulations to the

PSA for making this event possible. We look forward to the successful conduct of
the 2020 CPH. “Sama na, Census na”.
