LGU’s Week: “Digitalization for Quick Connection” a webinar for Social Media
Managers of the Local Government Units

In line with the celebration of the 31st National Statistics Month (NSM), the Philippine
Statistics Authority Regional Statistics Services Office II (PSA RSSO II) hosted a free
webinar for the Local Government Units (LGU’s) Social Media Handlers. The webinar was
conducted via Zoom on October 19, 2020.

Regional Director (RD) Marilyn T. Estrada in her

Opening message related the connection of the 31st
NSM theme “Bridging Digital Gaps: Making
Information Available to All” to the webinar. “We are
very much aware that the world has changed by
Coronavirus19 and that digitalization has been brought
to the forefront as a medium to make information available to wider scope. It is our hope that
this event will somehow underscore the need to address the digital divide to serve our
economic and social needs,” Estrada shared. She then, encouraged the attendees to have
an active and fruitful participation.

Ms. Jezamie T. Dela Cruz, Social Media Strategist shared slides on how LGU’s elevate the
digital space through their Social Media pages.Ms. Dela Cruz first shared ways on how to be
an Effective Social Media Manager or Handler Branding, by being Familiar with their
branding like for example the programs and services
of their respective offices. Ms. Dela Cruz also shared
the beauty of communicating clearly with their target
audience, to get their attention and connecting with
them by using the current trends of society.

In the afternoon, Mr. Mark Djeron C. Tumabao, Information

Officer of Philippine Information Agency 2 (PIA2) also shared
a presentation regarding the importance of Facebook insights
in a social media manager because this is where a social
media manager will know how to communicate with his target
audience. Tumabao also related to post positivity in the
LGU’s respective social media pages to lessen the negativity
brought by other pages. He also added to highlight the best practices and products of each
government offices in their pages to promote their respective local government units.

At the end of the webinar, Engr. Girme M. Bayucan,

Statistical Operations and Coordination Division
(SOCD) Chief thanked the 35 LGU’s Social Media
handlers who attended the event and hoped that
they have learned a thing or two in the whole
duration of the webinar.
