Business (un)usual: PSA enumerators at markets and groceries for


price collection

Despite the threat of the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID19) in the name of public service
the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) staff and employees at the provinces of
Isabela and Quirino conduct price collection at markets and grocery stores to come up
with reliable price statistics which is used to measure the levels and movement of
goods and services that are purchased by consumers.

According to the recent declaration of the Inter-agency Task Force on Emerging


Infectious Diseases (IAFT-EID), members of survey teams from the PSA are now
included in the list of the Authorized Persons Outside of Residence (APOR) in Luzon
while the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) is in effect to conduct data
gathering and survey activities provided that strict preventive measures are applied
such as social distancing and wearing of protective gears.

Recording of prices are done either through Computer Aided Personal Interview
(CAPI) which needs the use of android tablets or Paper and Pen Personal Interview
(PAPI). Price statistics generated by the agency are generated in coming up with
inflation rate, price index and average prevailing price which are needed by planners
and policy makers for economic analysis.
