HOMEWORKS: Is banning a solution?

Form of Discourse: Argumentative/ Persuasive Essay
Subject Matter: Editorial Essay
“Okay, No HOMEWORK for today, class dismissed!”
The atmosphere in the classroom setting suddenly turned ecstatic when
the teacher announced the sweetest phrase an educator could say to the
students. Suddenly, in the past months, two members of the Congress
presented their respective measures seeking to BAN HOMEWORK legitimately.
Under House Bill 3611 filed by Deputy Speaker and Sorsogon
Representative Elena Escudero, the banning of homeworks were started. She
believed that the said policy will give students a break from stress at school
and enough time to take a rest at home. According to the proponent of this
measure, homework has negative effects on children because it steals the time
that is supposed to be allotted for their families.
When the policy was publicly aired nationwide on the news, some of the
students may be happy about the said policy because it would finally lessen
their worries at home. For me, I disagree with this policy because we all know
that homework is one of our responsibilities as a student. This teaches us to
work independently and develop self-discipline and a sense of punctuality,
implementing this kind of policy will only build laziness to student and divert
their attention into computers games or any mobile games.
Some of students are complaining about having homeworks and they’d
say that they need time to relax but homework is not actually a burden or the
problems it's the students who are making it hard for themselves because
instead of doing it right away they tend to do other stuffs rather than doing
their homeworks. In order to be productive just stop complaining and learn
how to manage your time.
Homework is a vital part of education, because it gives students the
opportunity to apply knowledge gained in the classroom. It hones a student’s
ability to be creative, organizational, responsible, and disciplined as well as
developing good study habits, independent problem-solving skills, and attitude
toward work and working on deadlines.
