QUESTION: What are the four pillars of IMO (International Maritime Organization)? On your own word

The four pillars of IMO (International Maritime Organization) :


SOLAS(Safety of life At Sea) - The Safety of life At Sea (SOLAS) Convention in its
successive forms is generally regarded as the most important of all international treaties concerning
the safety of merchant ships.

STCW(Standard of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafearers-


The Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978 sets minimum
qualification standards for masters, officers and watch personnel on seagoing merchant ships and
large yachts.

MARPOL( Marine Polllution)- The MARPOL is the main international convention aimed at
the prevention of pollution from ships caused by operational or accidental causes.

MLC( Maritime Labour Convention)- It is unique in that it aims both to achieve decent
work for seafarers and to secure economic interests through fair competition for quality ship owners.
