In our families and faith communities, how can we cultivate a sense of responsibility for building

a society in which the dignity of each person is recognized and protected?

A sense of responsibility is an awareness of one’s obligations. It can be defined as a

general conscious awareness; "a sense of security"; "a sense of happiness"; "a sense of danger"; "a
sense of self". Sense of responsibility is an important factor that cannot be overemphasized even
in our society.

Cooperating with and helping others can be an important way for having a sense of
responsibility. We can help one another develop and improve our cooperative attitudes. We learn
through cooperative attitudes through tasks that are appropriate for our levels of development and
tasks that are challenging and satisfying. I believe to hone this kind of attitude we must start bit by
bit in ourselves then to our community. Reaching out to others might be a challenging task but it
connects us to everyone creates strong bond in the community. Doing things to others whether
small, unplanned acts or volunteering. The people we help may be strangers, family, friends,
colleagues or neighbors. They can be old or young, nearby or far away. Having this kind of acts
risen a concern that recognized the dignity of every human person. Kindness towards others is be
the clue which connects individual happiness with wider community and societal wellbeing.
Giving to others helps us connect with people and meets one of our basic human needs -
relatedness. Kindness and caring also seem to be contagious. When we see someone do
something kind or thoughtful, or we are on the receiving end of kindness, it inspires us to be
kinder ourselves. In this way, kindness spreads from one person to the next, influencing the
behavior of people who never saw the original act. Kindness really is the key to creating a
happier, more trusting local community. Being a good role model by watching and imitating what
other people see in you. Modeling appropriate behaviors such as keeping promises, sharing,
cooperating, helping and being responsible.

The Christian family, though building up the Church in love, positions itself at the service
of the human being and the earth, genuinely bringing about human advancement. Another job for
the family is to shape people in love and also to practice love in all its relationships, so that they
do not live closed in on themselves, But remains open to the community, motivated by a sense of
justice and empathy for others, and by an understanding of its duty as society as a whole.
Community citizens and groupings will make a huge difference. You will instill a greater sense
of obligation, a powerful sense of belonging, a desire to defend others, a spirit of imagination
and a deep love for the land.
