ENGAGE & EXPLORE

Introduction to the activity:

Question 1: What did you learn from the poem?

The poem gave me a comprehension of the fact that this pandemic created a different impact on
everyone's lives, it could be negative, positive, or neutral. Which means that we should not have the
mentality to judge everyone the way how the pandemic affected their lives. I also learned the value of
respecting the lives of everyone, since we don’t have the same level of strength in life and don’t
belong to a one social class. In addition, I learned that we should eliminate the underestimation of
one’s emotion and feelings. This pandemic has affected everyone’s mental health due to the
excessive social isolation that they experienced and we need to respect that.

Question 2: What is the poem trying to convey to you?

The poem conveys a message that we should not generalize the notion that this pandemic impacted
everyone's lives similarly. We shouldn't form a concept in our minds that our experiences during the
pandemic are the same from the other person. It also portrays what the reality is today during the
crisis and it’s actually an eye opener for me to be aware of what’s happening around us. With that, to
have unity and connection with everyone is one important thing that I myself or everyone should be
doing in able for us to put our dark situation to an end. Lastly, it’s a reflection for us to not be self-
centered all the time and we should learn to be compassionate in this time of crisis.
ACTIVITY 1: Personal and family story/experiences on the Pandemic

Question 1: Did you or any family member ever experience any kind of fear or threats during the
pandemic?

Yes. It didn't only cause us to experience fear because of how the virus is easily transmitted, but also
to have worry on how we can sustain our family amid the pandemic.

Question 2: What are these experiences and how did your family cope with this? What course of
action dis you take?

Financially, my family is unstable so it's vastly a challenge for us to gain sufficient income to supply
my school tuition fees and to provide our basic needs. It’s a hard time for us since we only have our
father to support us and he don’t gain money that is adequate to sustain our living amid the
pandemic. But despite the small income, he persevered to continue his small business and it’s been
our way to cope up with the current situation. Also, our other members of the family living from the
other place also lend us a hand to support his business.
To keep our family healthy, safe, and sane at home during the pandemic era, we initially prioritized
taking good care of our health for us to strengthen our immune system. The kind of fear that we felt
enable us to take extra-protection such us following the health protocols outside and inside at home
and practicing it daily. We also practiced leaving our personal things such as slippers or shoes when
entering the house after we went outdoors for safety. It has been a vast adjustment but each one of
us learned to be responsible in doing it. We keep in mind that it’s our way for us to eliminate the fear
we are experiencing.
