me. I I would definitely dedicate my achievements to my parents, brothers and teachers. They
have always been my source of inspiration. I have always looked up to them. Whenever I have
failed, i they were the ones who believed in me when even I did not believe in myself.
Whatever I am today is because of their belief in me.

3.3 Planning Section

In simple terms planning in construction involves: What to do. When to do, How to do. i Planning
includes many functions like preparing daily, weekly and monthly schedules, workingi out resource
requirements to achieve the planned targets, budgeting etc. which mandates i knowledge of quantity
survey. Working out with the quantities required to cover the total scope of project for preparing the
Project completion schedule using Project Management tools like MS I Project/Primavera and get them
approved by the Project Manager for preparing the Budget Work plan for the year under consideration.
3.4 Finance Section
The construction financial manager's role may vary from company to company, partly becausei different
financial managers have different skills and personalities. The role also varies depending on the size of
the company. A construction financial manager's background often indicates the l areas in which the
manager will concentrate. For exammple, a construction tinancial manager whose background is in
construction operations (estimating and project managemen) initally will concentrate on the proper
recording of job costs. A construction financial manager whose background is in public accounting
probably will initially emphasize financial reporting and l income tax planning. The financial manager
should recognizc thcsc influcncing factors and makel efiorts to compensate for any deficiencies.

3.5 Quantity Surveying Section

Quantity Surveyor play an important role in construction industry. Quantity surveying is i primarily
centered on construction and the management of the costs and budgets of largei projects. From the
moment a plan is drawn until a large construction project has been completed, i a quantity surveyor is
likely to be involved in a legal, technical and financial capacity. Thei functions of a quantity surveyor are
broadly concerned with the control of the cost oni construction projects, the management and
maintenance of the budget, valuations and any legal l matters arising through the course of the project.
They are required to make sure that the project I remains profitable and efficient.

3.6 AutoCAD Section

To prepare Drawings and Maps. AutoCAD is widely used in the civil engineering field because of its
ability to plan sites a lot easier then hand drawings. The main thing is that if you want to draft any civil
engineering structure (2D, 3D) such as buildings, bridges, roads, drainage, pipeline, i dams, intersection
etc. with accuracy, speed and that can be easily edited, AutoCAD is the bestI option.

3.7Process
3.7.1 Initiation
The initiation processes will detemine the nature and scope of the project. The key project controls
needed here are an understanding of the business environment and making sure that all necessary
controls are incorporated into the project. This stage will include analyzing the business : requirements,
financial analysis for costs and benefits, project deliverables and stake holder analysis.

3.7.2 Planning and design

After the initiation stage, the project will be planned to an appropriate level of detail. The mainI purpose
is to plan time, cost and resources adequately to estimate the work needed and tol effectively manage
risk during project execution.
3.7.3 Execution
Executing will consists of the processes used to complete the work defined in the project management
plan to accomplish the project's requirements. Execution process will involvei coordinat ing people and
resources.

3.7.4 Monitoring and Controlling

Monitoring and controlling will consist of those processes perfiormed to observe project execution so
that potent ial problems can be identifed in a timely manner and corrective action can be taken, i when
necessary, to control the execution of the project. The key benefit will be that project performance is
observed and measured regularly to identify variances from the project management plan.

3.7.5 Closing
Closing will include the formal acceptance of the project and the ending thereof. Administrativei
activities will include the archiving of the files and documenting

4. PROJECT AREA OF TRANING

The name of project was Rehman plaza. It is located in Thokar niaz baig the cover area ofl project is 10
Marla. The project was constructed as a frame structure. After that masonry work l was done. When we
join the project it was about to finish. The design of the bulilding was very good it was design by Alam
khan construction.

The aim of project to provide reasonable plaza facility for every class. The plaza is constructed within 7
months and hand over in time to the owner. The quality objectives for the building is very high.

4.1 Limits and exclusions

 The project will be built according to the specifications and design of the original.

4.5 Plaster Work

Plaster is a thin layer of mortar applied over the masonry sur face and it acts as a damp-proof coat over
the brick masonry work. Plastering also provides a finished surface over the masonry that isl firm and
smooth hence it enhances the appearance of the building. i

The primary objectives of plastering are to protect the surface from atmospheric influences, to cover the
defective workmanship in masonry, to conceal porous materals, and to provide a suitable i surface for
painting.

4.5.1 Preparation of Surface for Plastering

1. Keep all the mortar joints of wall rough, so as to give a good bonding to hold plaster.
2. Roughen the entire wall to be plastered.
3. Clean all the joints and surfaces of the wall with a wire brush. there should be no oil orl grease
etc. left on wall surface.
4. If there exist any cavities or holes on the surface, then ill it in advance with appropriatei
material.
5. If the surface is smooth or the wall to be plastered is old one, then rake out the mortar joint to
a depth of at least 12 mm to give a better bonding to the plaster.
6. Wash the mortar joints and entire wall to be plastered, and keep it wet for at least 6 hours i
before applying cement plaster.
7. If the projection on the wall surface is more than 12 mm, then knock it of, o as to obtainl a
uniform surface of wall. This will reduce the consumption of plaster. I
4.5.2 Applying Under Coat or Base Coat
1. In case of brick masonry the thickness of first coat plaster is in general 12 mm and in casei of
concrete masonry this thickness varies from 9 to 15 mm.
2. The ratio of cement and sand for first coat plaster varies from 1:3 to 1:6.
3. Apply the irst coat of plaster between the spaces formed by the screeds on the wall surface. i
This is done by means of trowel.
4. Level the surface by means of flat wooden floats and wooden straight edges. I
5. After leveling, lef the first coat to set but not to dry and then roughen it with a scratching tool to
torm a key to the second coat of plaster.

4.5.3 Applying Finishing Coat

1. The thickness of second coat or finishing coat may vary between 2 to 3 mm.
2. l The ratio of cement and sand for second coat plaster varies from 1:4 to 1 :6. Before applying
the second coat, damp the first coat evenly.
3. . Apply the finishing coat with wooden floats to a true even surface and using a steel trowel, i
give it a finishing touch.
4. As far as possible, the finishing coat should be applied starting from top towards bottom and
completed in one operation to eliminate joining marks.

4.5.4 Curing of plastering works

1. After completion of the plastering work, it is kept wet by sprinkling water for at least 7 days in
order to develop strength and hardness.i
2. Use of gunny bags or other materials is used to keep the plastering works wet in externall works.
3. Improper curing may lead to cracks formation or efflorescence in plaster work. i

4.6 Plumbing and sanitary system

Before finishing we also learnt about plumbing and sanitary system. i

The plumbing system consist of the entire system of piping, fixtures and appliances used for water
supply and drainage.

5. SCHEDULE OF INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Schedule of internship program was properly managed. From the day one they told us how we wil do
our internship during that 59 Days.

Most of my time, I spent on the Building construction site. I was also introduced to the worki process of
finishing of building, tiles in building, celling and water supply. In the last few days wei learnt a lttle
about the design, because it's a full ime job so learning about design wasn't possible in few days so we
just had basic information about it. Office work was kind of essent ial for usi because in our field we
have to interact with the people quite frequently. so we learnt a bit about it that how to deal with
different people of different mindset.

Internship Program Table

6. SKILLS AND TECHNIQUES LEARNT DURING INTERNSHIP
The internship was concentrated on the finishing of the building, tiles, celling and water supply. at the
beginning of the internship I had set several learning goals regarding the improvement of know ledge
and skills about the construction during my stay several activities have contributed to achieve a number
of goals.

The objective of these projects is to estimate the quantity of the material distribution and about the l
material used. Next, I participated in field work to gain the experience for the field work. i The internship
was a useful experience. I have find out what my strengths and weaknesses are. i I gained new
knowledge and skills and met many new people.

The financing of projects is an important factor and forces to be flexible in attitude and approach. i T
have learnt more about the civil engineering. To succeed in conservation of the species, the i sharing of
knowledge, ideas and opinions is of importance. At last this internship has given me i new insights and
motivation. To prepare myself for my future career ican improve several things. I During my internship
interval I observed different activities in construction process. Thesei activities are given as below.

Finishing of building Tiles and celling work

7. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE INTERNS

 Demonstrate the highest level of professionalism, which includes arriving on time forl
designated work, notifying the site supervisor of any deviations from the established i schedule,
and dressing to the standards of the organization and the work being performed.
 Respect the organization's reporting structure and follow the policies and procedures of the
organization.
 Cormmunicate effectively with the site supervisor, immediate supervisor (if different fromi site
supervisor), and other staff within the organization; accept and apply critiques and i
suggestions to daily work in an efiort to become more productive and/or efficient. i > Complete and
submit to the faculty supervisor Weekly Time Logs.

 Complete and discuss i with the site supervisor the midterm and final evaluations. Submit the
evaluations to HPUI Career and Internship Services in a timely manner.
 Communicate with the site supervisor and/or faculty supervisor any issues that may affect that
your performance of assigned responsibiltes or the overall success of the experience. i

discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, sex, religion, age, nation/ethnic origin, i disability,
or sexual orientation.
 Uphold the Hih Point University Conduct Code and act in an ethical manner when on and off-
campus and while representing the host organization.

8. USEFUL NOTES / POINTS-A BRIEF SUMMERY OF THE

ACOUIRED KNOWLEDGE
I worked on the construction site during my training: I closely studied the aspects of practical l
application of various methodologies and learnt the art of being pioneer in solving practical l problems
faced at site. There is a lot of difference between theoretical methodologies and practical approach to
execute various construction processes. Theoretical knowledge is insufficient tol commence task at site.
The quality of construction work was at priority with respect to time. I've i learned a lot from the
internship so far. Now my building and construction skills, has been I improved to a totally new level.
With this goal in mind, I've outlined my academic qualifications l and work experience.

At the end of every internship program, there will come a time when one of your former interns will ask
you to commit to the following question:

"Would you be able to write me a letter of Recommendation?"

Remember, writing a meaningful letter of recommendation requires time and thoughtfilness, anI
understanding of the target readership, and most importantly, knowledge of the intern for whom I you
are writing. To be sure, the content of the letter is just as important as the person orl organization that is
writing it.

8.1 Take time to reflect on the intern's work

You may want to refer back to pertormance evaluations or finished products completed by thei intern.
Observations or interactions related to the intern's work ethic and professionalism are thei

9. USEFUL POINTS FOR NEW INTERNS

Finding work can be a real challenge, especially if you don't have any experience. Yet to get experience
you must frst find a job. It's a nasty catch that can be difficult to get around i

internship good way to do it. Internships provide work experience opportunitiesi but ani to university
students, recent graduates and people considering career changes. Employers i are willing to hire
interns with little or no experience, especally if the intern is willing to accept little or no monetary
compensation. However, the benefits of doing an internship go far beyond you pay cheque.

An internship provides the opportunity to gain hands on work experience that you just can't get in the
classroom. First time job seekers and career changers aren't usually desirablei candidates, but
companies are willing to train them as interns and give them the experiencei they would need to get a
job.

10. SUGGESTIONS / RECOMMENDATIONS

 Introduce the intern on the first day to other employees. Encourage the intern to havei
individual meetings with colleagues they will frequently interact with. This will help the intern
feel welcome and to become comfortable.
 Treat the intern like a real member of the team and not just a temporary employee. i Provide
meaningful work opportunities.
 Create an internship binder that provides information on where to find resources i

important to the intern's job. Including work phone numbers and emails of colleagues.

 Provide interns with job description and base performance on how well they completei what's
in the description.
 Give feedback in a time ly and respectful manner, realizing that this may be the intern's i first
experience in a professional job setting.
 Rotate the intern through various parts of the department or provide opportunities to work
with various people by rotating supervisors
 Invite interns to attend staff meetings and professional networking events with you. i Provide
mentoring to the intern, not just supervision.
 Have patience. The intern needs to learn the company very fast as they are only there i for a
short period of time.

11. CONCLUSION
The internship is a key element in the technical writing student's professional preparation. i The
internship report is a key element in the internship experience. i

It is through writing the report that the maturity and professional experience the student gained as an
intern becomes fully realized.

It is through the report that the student exercises his or her critical and analytical faculties i and
demonstrates newly found skill and identity as a professional communicator. i It was wonderful working
experience with All consultants. on the construction site of development for about two months. I got a
lot of insight regarding almost every aspect of site. i
I was given exposure to all the departments at the site. The friendly welcome from all thei employees
was appreciating, Sharing their experience and giving peace of wisdom whichi they have gained during
their long journey of work.

I hope this experience will surely help me in my future and also shaping my career.
