Lesson 2: Summary and Reflection

There are quite a few concepts and codes which stuck with me as I
studied this lesson. In lesson 2, I was able to read the National Building Code of
the Philippines—to be more specific, Rule VII and Rule VIII. I was able to know
the zoning requirements, the classification of buildings, the required
measurements, and the permitted measurements of area in buildings and
properties. It is important that buildings should function properly according to
its classification. A residential building is not allowed to have commercial
purposes. Offices are allowed as long as there are actual occupants with the
profession appropriate to the office equipped in the building. I was not able to
look much into commercial buildings but I do know that buildings and the
areas inside should not disrupt or cause any commotion to neighboring areas.
Buildings are also required to be adjacent to streets or public areas.

There are different codes applicable to every discipline and every type
of building. This is very important as every building has different objectives of
being built. A residential building is a building which is supposed to shelter
occupants, and so the codes should be effective to these occupants.
Commercial buildings have different objectives, there is no one objective as
commercial buildings are occupied by businesspeople, stores, firms, and etc.
There are different objectives and purposes of why these buildings are built.
The occupants in the building must be safe, comfortable, and have their own
flow as constructed.
