BEED 2-1

1 .What could be the emotion of the artist wants to express when doing this art?

For me, I think the emotion of artist wants to express doing this art is sorrow or
sympathy. We can see in the sculpture that it is a representation of Virgin Mary
mourning over the body of the dead Lord Jesus Christ. The artist feels sympathetic
sorrow evoked by the suffering of others. I think the artist is inspired by the love of Virgin
Mary to his Son Jesus Christ when he did that sculpture. I can imagine that he read the
bible so that he came up to that master piece . More over, As we can see, a Virgin Mary
emotion is sad while holding her son Jesus Christ after he was crucified. This art shows
sadness or sympathy for someone else’s difficult situation. Since Jesus Christ died to
fadeout our sins. (John 3:16)..

2. What do you think the message of this art to the audience?

From the title of the sculpture, (La Pieta), pieta means pity or compassion. I think
the message of this art to the audience is a mother pity and love to his/her child.. It
shows that a mother could not bear too see her child suffering, it is in their mind set that
she can accept all the pain but not his child. A mother’s always want her child to be in a
good condition. Mother's love is the puzzled piece in the puzzled life of her son. It
shows a mother’s unending love as they are the greatest person to their child. This art
remind us that our mother's love encompasses all.

3. Give a unique name for this sculpture.

"The Greatest love of all ".

4. Look for a sculpture inside/outside tour home. Take picture, describe its
appearance, and write a short caption.

I took a picture of a Merlion sculpture it is 5.5 inches long, it is color lime green with little bit
of dust because I found this sculpture on our old cabinet beneat the kitchen. It has a
sculptured name on the lower back and front namely : singapore , merlion. It is Singapore
Merlion. Its name combines "mer", meaning the sea, and "lion". The fish body represents
Singapore's origin as a fishing village when it was called Temasek, which means "sea town" in
Javanese. I think the artist of this sculpture used a kind of marble material. Overall the
quality of this sculpture is good, i just need to clean it.

The short caption that I give with this sculpture is “Vintage Toy” because when i
was i child it is my toy. I remember i played it when i'm taking a bath, playing in the mud when
it is raining. All of my childhood memories were in this statue and i wont forget that i throw it
because of " pag liligalig" . And i am amaze when i am searching for sculpture i found it in the
old cabinet and it seems like its brings the memories back of my extra ordinary Child hood.
