you into 6 groups. This activity is called “Team
Learning”.

I will give an envelope each group. Inside the


envelopes are sets of Festivals with keywords. I will play
a video then I want you to observe each video to
determine what festival is being presented. The group
who will identify the video that is being presented will Yes Sir!
shout “Viva” and paste the corresponding festival in

The highlight of the two-


week long festival is the
Subli dance, a worship
dance of the Holy Cross.
That’s correct! The first video is all about
Sublian Festival. Let us define what Sublian Festival is.
Please read.
Sublian came from the
word subli, a combination
of the words subsub, a
Tagalog word, which
means falling on the
head,or being in a
crouching position; and
bali, a Tagalog word,
which means broken or
bent.
It is a very long celebration of fiesta. They dance
the Subli Dance and they honor the Holy Cross.

So the Sublian came from the word subli which a


combination of tagalog word subsub and bali meaning to
bent or in a crouching position. Like this.

Sublian Festival is celebrated every July 23 in


Batangas City.

atihan Festival. The Ati-atihan festival is very lively,
colorful and it is a weeklong fiesta. It is known as the
mother of all festivals in the Philippines. It is a feast held
annually in honor of Sto. Nino in the island of Kalibo,
Aklan. The celebration begins in the 3rd week of January.

Is there anyone who knows the meaning of Ati- Sir the meaning of Ati-
atihan? atihan is “to be like aetas”.

That’s right! The meaning of Ati-atihan is “to be


like aetas” or “make believe in atis”. Sir because the Spaniard
brought Sto. Nino in the
Ati-atihan is a celebration of pact between Philippines.
Spaniards and Aetas. Do you have an idea why?

That’s correct! Spaniards brought Sto. Nino in


the Philippines.

They yell “Viva Sto. Nino” meaning “Mabuhay Sto.


Nino” and “Hala Bira”means cheer a person to give it all

week of August in Davao and it came from the word
“ madayaw”, a friendly greeting of Davaoenios.

the moon God.

Its name derives from the
friendly greeting
"Madayaw.

Kadayawan Festival? Sir Kadayawan Festival is

Festival.

The Ibalong Festival celebrates the epic story of


the town of Ibalong with threelegendary heroes, namely
Baltog, Handyong, Bantong and other ancient heroes.

the tandayag (giantboar), dambuhala (one-eyed
monster), oryol  (half-woman, half-serpent), and a giant
called Rabot.

  Ibalong Festival of Legazpi City has no official


schedule as of this writing, but it is tentatively slated
from August 3 – 30.

Again class, who are the 3 legendary heroes of


Ibalong Festival? Sir the three legendary
heroes of Ibalong Festival
are Baltog, Handyong and
Bantong.

Sinulog Festival. Kindly read. The festival is
characterized by a very
long parade with many
groups of people dressed
in colourful costumes,
finding their way through
the streets while dancing
the Sinulog.

This Sinulog dance is now


the traditional ritual dance
in honor of Santo Niño.

The dance is accompanied


by the sound of the drums
while the dancers move
two steps forward
followed by one step
backward.

and women in costumes
and masks replicating the
garb of biblical Roman
soldiers as interpreted by
local folks.

the Christ.

blind in one eye. He struck Jesus Christ in the body, and
then the blood of Jesus Christ dropped to his eyes and

in Jesus Christ and developed his faith to God. And then
he became a Saint.
