LESSON OBJECTIVES
CONTENT STANDARD:
The learner demonstrates understanding of the musical characteristics of representative music
from the lowlands of Luzon.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD:
The learner performs music of the lowlands with appropriate pitch, rhythm, expression and style
LEARNING COMPETENCIES:
Describes the musical characteristics of representative music selections from the lowlands of
Luzon after listening; MU7LU-Ia-1
At the end of the session, students are expected to:
a) identify the musical characteristics of representative music selections from the
lowlands of Luzon,
b) demonstrate understanding of the different musical characteristics of selected folk
songs, and
c) reflect on the importance folk songs through active participation in discussion and
activities.

A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITES
Standard preparation before the class begins

B. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES
1. RECALL ACTIVITY
Let the students recall the following musical symbols being flashed in the cards by naming
them one by one. (whole note, quarter note, flat, g-clef, sharp, 2/4, half rest, bar line and
dotted note).
The teacher will ask the students these questions:
- Where do we used or see these symbols?
- What is the significance of these symbols to music?
INTEGRATION: Music Curriculum 5 (meaning and uses of musical symbols)
2. MOTIVATIONAL ACTIVITY:
Listening Activity
The teacher will play folk songs from the lowlands of Luzon (Bahay Kubo, Atin Cu Pung
Singsing, Sarung Banggi, Manang Biday) and students will guess the title of the songs.
3. ACTIVITY
Crossword Puzzle
The teacher will post a crossword puzzle. Students will try to find 16 popular folk songs from
Luzon which are hidden in the puzzle.
4. ANALYSIS
The class will examine the puzzle and their answers
GUIDE QUESTIONS:
What helped you find the songs in the puzzle?
Are you familiar with the given songs in this activity?
How did they become familiar to you?
Have you tried singing those songs before? How was it?
Do you like listening to those type of songs? Why or why not?

The teacher will now present the new lesson to the students through an
interactive discussion:

FOLK SONG ANALYSIS (Group Activity)
The class will complete the given songs by providing the missing words in the lyrics. After
completing the songs, the class will describe the musical characteristics of the songs (place
of origin, mood, concept, time signature, tempo)

The teacher will ask the students to read about liturgical/devotional music and secular
music from the lowlands Luzon.
