Similarities  Have a similar look and feel,
with menus, spreadsheets and
built-in statistical functions
Differences  Excel does not give you a
paper trail where you can
easily replicate the exact steps
that you took. It also starts
becoming unwieldy to use
when the number of variables
and observations starts getting
really large.
Advantages  One of the advantages of
SPSS is that students can
import data from other
sources, when data is
organized as a database,
including Excel.
Disadvantages  Limited data visualization
capabilities and the graph
features are not as simple as
of Microsoft Excel.
 Usually involves added
training to completely exploit
all the available features.
 They both good software to use
for data organization, using a
specially developed analysis and
statistical software. They can
provide you with in-depth, faster
and accurate data analysis.
 SPSS allows you to perform
complex analytics such as
factor analysis, logistic
regression, cluster analysis
etc. 
 Create equations that can allow
you to provide more data on
vital company functions, such
as workflow, project
efficiency, financial
projections and budgets, and
even inventory levels and
usage.
 Not offer a good variety of
graph capabilities.
 The customization of the
standard formats and the
combination of different data
sets and different types of
graph is awkward & not
intuitive, For a powerful
worksheet, this is a big
disadvantage.
