TEACHER LEADER COACHING ACTIVITES FOR COLLEAGUES

1. Alliance-building.
The purpose of alliance-building for teacher leader and their colleagues are to grow
confidence, mutuality and learn about one and another (Coaching & Observation
Activities, n.d.). Positive relationship is the foundation for all the work teacher leader
conduct with their colleagues indeed. Besides, Wehby (2011) stated positive
coaching alliance leads to better improvement in instruction between coach and
teachers. Alliance can be built through effective communication and interpersonal
skills, treating the ally as equals and exhibit total professionalism such as asking
good question or provide opportunity for everyone’s feedback.

2. Classroom Inter-visitation.
While having teacher leader as the coordinator to this activity, teachers gets to visit
other educator’s classroom during the teaching and learning process and learn from
them by observing their practices which then leads teachers to set personal
development goals. Through witnessing how other peers conduct stuff, participants
may also learn new techniques and learn how they can be applied in real time under
real conditions. Moreover, the inter-visitation promotes professional learning
community (PLC) within teachers and their peers (Coaching & Observation
Activities, n.d.).

3. Lesson Study.
This activity requires a group of teachers to develop a comprehensive lesson plan in
a particular lesson and have one teacher to apply the modified lesson plan in the
class. Other teachers then will observe and examine the lesson plan whether it
needs any enhancement. The teacher leader roles include guiding and advocating
the teacher involved in producing ideas that’s best for students’ learning (Gibbons,
2017). Teachers knowledge on their student and teaching practice are assumed to
likely increase from participating in lesson study (Coaching & Observation Activities,
n.d.).
