Delineation of a sequence - key surfaces • SB – sequence boundary • CC – correlative conformity
• MRS – maximum regression surface
• MFS – maximum flooding surface

What are “surfaces” and why are they called that? • In respect to sequence stratigraphy, “surfaces” are spatially continues 3D surfaces, diachronos in formation but time equivalent in respect to the end of the process that lead to their formation. • In seismic interpretation, “surfaces” are any spatially continues 3D surfaces that can be isolated and “picked” out by the interpreter by as clear and identifiable reflectors of consistent nature.
