1 Students to Professionals – The RTDNAC On February 25, 2020, News Director attended
Student Workshop RTDNAC sponsored workshop. The event
drew 130 students from several journalism
programs at both North Carolina and South
WBTV-TV, Charlotte, NC Carolina schools. More than 30 working
professionals shared their experience of getting
into and thriving in the modern media
environment.

WECT-TV EEO Outreach Promo WECT-TV airs the below promotional spot as
an ongoing recruitment initiative.

4 WECT Diversity and Inclusion Workshop On June 25, 2020 WECT hosted a Zoom
Workshop that was moderated by Kimberly
Zoom Workshop
McLaughlin-Smith, UNC-Wilmington’s
Attended by 40 employees Diversity & Inclusion Specialist. Staff
participated in sharing their views on current
events and Kimberly offered ideas and insight
to the staff for the future

5 Foundations Training Overview Workshop Starting July 9, 2020 Adaway Consulting will
be hosting a five week workshop for General
Hosted by Adaway Consulting Group
Managers and News Directors. Items to be
addressed:
General Manager and News Director attended Shared language around diversity, equity,
inclusion, power and the four levels of
oppression

How biases influence your interactions and


decision making and ways to mitigate them

Ways to spot how implicit bias and


microaggressions show up in media and how to
avoid it

How to champion equity and inclusion efforts


and involve your staff in the process
Handling conflict, making mistakes, and having
difficult conversations across difference
How to avoid common faux pas made
regarding: gendered language, race, class, and
ability

How to apologize effectively –particularly to


those with marginalized identities.

The Adaway Group is a black woman owned


firm that provides consulting and training
services in the areas of diversity, equity,
inclusion, (DEI), social justice, strategic
planning, and organizational change.

6 UNC-Wilmington Business Class Tour On February 28, 2020, General Manager met
with the business class lead by UNCW
Cameron Executive Network Greg Miller.
Students were given an intricate tour of the
television station and given the opportunity to
have a question and answer session after the
tour.
