Dynamics of first order Systems

Transfer function
Continuous Stirred tank reactor (CSTR)
Assumptions:-
 Liquid phase reaction
 Constant volume of reaction mixture
 First order irreversible isothermal
reaction,(-rA )= kCo
 (-rA ): moles/m3-sec
 C: Moles/m3
 K: rate constant, 1/sec
Transfer Function of
Liquid Level Tank
 Consider a single tank having cross
sectional area A m2. A flow resistance
valve R is attached to a pipe at the
bottom.
 qi,qo are inlet and outlet volume flow
rate in m3/sec respectively.
 h is the liquid head, m.
Assumptions:-
 There is a linear relationship between
the flow and head or linear resistance.
MERCURY
ASSUMPTIONS
 All the resistance to heat transfer resides
in the film surrounding the bulb (i.e. the
THERMOMETER resistance offered by the glass and
mercury is neglected).
 All the thermal capacity is in the mercury.
Furthermore, at any instant the mercury
assumes a uniform temperature
throughout.
 The glass wall containing the mercury
does not expand or contract during the
transient response. (In an actual
thermometer, the expansion of the wall
has an additional effect on the response of
the thermometer reading.
Deviation Variable
 The deviation variable describes directly the magnitude of the dislocation of a system
from the desired level of operation.
