Attempt all the questions.

1. a) Two spheres I and II of radii 150mm and 100mm respectively are 9


placed on a container as shown in figure.Sphere I of mass 80kg is
suspended with a string AB of length 330mm and sphere II of mass
50kg is placed on top of it.Determine the tension in AB and the
reaction from the container.

2. a) Two cables are tied together at C and loaded as shown. Determine the 7
tension in AC and BC.

b) The 6 m boom AB has a fixed end A. A steel cable is stretched from


the free end B of the boom to a point C located on the vertical wall. If
the tension in the cable is 1900 N, determine the moment about A of
the force exerted by the cable at B.

3. a) Two masses m1=25kg and m2=15kg are tied together by a rope 9


parallel to the inclined plane surface as shown in figure. If μs for m1 is
0.25 and that for m2 is 0.5 find (a) the value of θ for which masses will
just start slipping. (b) tension in the rope.

b) Locate the centroid of the shaded areas shown, where a = b = d = 6


60cm and c = 30 cm.

4. Draw shear force and bending moment diagram of given simply supported 15
beam.

5. a) Find out the moment of inertia of the area bounded by the curves as 8
shown.

b) Analyze the force in each member of the given truss.

6. a) The two blocks shown start from rest. The horizontal plane and the 10
pulley are frictionless. The pulley is assumed to be of negligible mass.
Determine the acceleration of each block and tension in each cord.

A pulley weighing 50kg having a radius of gyration of 0.4m is
connected to two blocks as shown. Assuming no axle friction,
determine the angular acceleration of the pulley and the acceleration
of each block.

b) The motion of particle is defined by the relation a=9t+5,where 'a' is 5


expressed in m/s2 and t is in second.At t=0,v=2m/s and
x=5m,determine the velocity and acceleration at t=4 seconds.
