Psychosocial Impact of Sexual Victimization among Filipino Men

Implications
There are only few studies that talks about sexual victimization on men, especially in a

Filipino context. This study can be beneficial in various settings. It may help the respondents like

the victims of sexual victimization, future researchers and to the field of Psychology. Relating

back to the previous literature there are copious amount of studies concerning sexually

victimized women so this study can help spread awareness to people that not only women have

experienced being sexually victimized but also men. With this study, the researchers aim to

contribute information in the fields of theory, research and practice.

This study also has theoretical and practical implications. Theoretically, this study can give a

better view and understanding of the psychosocial impact of Filipino male victims who were

sexually victimized. This study will also be a great contribution in eliminating the Philippine

society’s stereotypes concerning sex role norms resulting to a decrease in the lack of societal

concern to Filipino male victims of sexual victimization. Through the results of this study,

professionals may create programs and intervention that would focus more on male victims and

to help them improve how they deal to these clients who is experiencing this kind of situation.

Relating back to the previous literatures about sexual victimization, sexually victimized women

are greatly taken into consideration. In this study, the researchers focus more on the other side of

the scope and explored on sexual victimization on men.

Due to the lack of literature regarding men being sexually victimized, this study allows men to

be heard and sheds light to men that were sexually victimized which the society is blinded with

when it comes to sexual victimization. Considering how there is scarcity on the literature on men

that were sexually victimized, in terms of research, the future researchers may refer to the
information gathered from the study to help them add some information on their study, which

can lead to a greater addition of literature to the topic that haven’t studied well, so with this

research it can be a stepping stone to better understand men that were sexually victimized and to

stop the discrimination towards men.
