Student Location

EX. G8 (R3, C4)

1. G20 (R5, C8)
2. B17 (R2, C7)
3. B23 (R3, C9)
4. G1 (R1, C2)
5. G13 (R3, C6)

A. Can you see any pattern in the number pair written against each student’s name? Describe the pattern.

B. Does the pair of numbers (2, 3) and (3, 2) refer to the same seat? If not, who occupied the seat numbered (2,
3) and (3, 2).

CONCEPT NOTES:
Cartesian plane is made up of two perpendicular number lines, one is horizontal and the other is vertical, whose
point of intersection is called the origin. The horizontal line is called the x-axis or abscissa and the vertical line is the y-
axis or ordinate. Two axes divide the plane into four quadrants. The axes are not part of the quadrant.

Every point is described in terms of an ordered pair (x, y). The values x and y are also called coordinates of the point. The
coordinates of the origin is (0, 0).

• (4, 3)

 Example:
Locate the following points in the coordinate plane and label the points. Then, determine the location of
each point.
