Zaki Fairuzzaki- FA Licensed Coach
U14 Boys Football
Football is a very common sport and almost all boys in QIS
play it. My job as a coach is to help the boys improve on the
game and make them better football players.
Components of skill related fitness and health related
exercise which are important in football are:
 Cardiovascular fitness
 Muscular endurance
 Speed
 Coordination
 Agility
To ensure the boys can improve their football skills, these
components will be worked on through circuit training. I personally
believe circuit training is the best training method to enhance many
of the skills that a footballer requires. It is also much more fun for
the boys as they get to
do a variety of drills,
which prevents them
from getting bored
easily. A training session
should always start with
a warm up, the main
session after and a
cooldown, which is
mainly matches so the boys can apply the techniques they have
learnt into the game.
Warm up:
A warm up is essential to prevent injury and to prepare the boys
physically and mentally for the game and the exercise.

Every session should always start with a warm up. A warm up

consists of three parts:

 Cardiovascular fitness (pulse raiser)

 Static and dynamic stretches
 Skills specific warm up

The pulse raiser: would normally a jog around

the pitch or across the pitch.

Stretching: Static stretches would be worked

from the bottom to the top of the body. The
muscles we should stretch are the
gastrocnemius, hamstrings, quadriceps for the
legs, and the latissimus dorsi and deltoids for the upper body, they
should be held on for at least 10 seconds. Dynamic stretches should
also be done by doing it across the pitch.

Skills specific: Can include by simply passing the ball between two or
more players, running in and out of defenders and dribbling the ball
through obstacles.
Overall Evaluation:
I certainly felt that it was a successful experience for myself
and the boys. I believe that I have seen a great improvement
in most of the boy’s technical ability in the game. This is
mainly due to the fact that I got everyone involved, they all
had an equal part in the training. So this gave a chance for
everyone to learn and improve their skills. The ranging
variety of drills for certain basic skills also played a major part
as they can learn different aspects of the same skill, so they
can apply it into game situations. However, there were a few
moments where I could have done better, some drills that I
provided were too challenging and confusing for them, which
prevented the kids from learning anything, also one of the
most challenging parts was getting everyone’s attention, and
to make sure everyone knows what they have to do. I
struggled in this for a few weeks but later on it was much
easier for me as I got more comfortable with the players.
