Speak to your friends/ classmate / known ones from

five different state or location and ask what
entrepreneurship means to them and how their culture
/ though help and hinder entrepreneurship.
-Note / Write down the experience that they shared.

As per the assignment I asked few of my friends and

known persons the above mentioned questions and the
responses that I have got are as follows –

1. Parag Chatterjee (childhood friend) staying in Kolkata,

MBA student : ”It refers to building one's own
enterprise, commonly called company or venture, often
from complete scratch and work gradually one's way to
a competitive position in the market through reaching
out to widespread connections, employing latest
research and analysis work, building efficient business
portfolios and making educated business decisions.
In the conservative, "safe-playing" environment of west
Bengal, entrepreneurship is an activity not often seen
as the people tend to assume it is almost always a risky
pursuit and hence, it is generally not encouraged by
one's peers”.

2. Rahul Shaw (ex colleague) staying in Bihar working in

ICICI Bank : “The capacity and willingness to develop,
organize and manage a business venture along with any
of its risks in order to make a profit. The most obvious
example of entrepreneurship is the starting of new
businesses.
Entrepreneurship is growing steadily in India but still
our culture hinders entrepreneurs. Mainly our society is
still lacking in economic development, education and
technological development which creates problems for
the entrepreneurs. In our society there are less
investors and the mindset of risk taking is also very
less”.

3. Rishav Ganguly (childhood friend) staying in Delhi, MSc.

Statistics student: “Entrepreneurship is when a product
or a service is designed, processed and launched and
running a new business which is initially small business
type. It can also be said as an opportunity to showcase
their independent capability in reaching individual
goals. The appropriateness of the idea of the
Entrepreneurship program is questioned it also dulls
the intention of the entrepreneur. Many a times family
pressure can sometimes suppress the confidence of the
entrepreneur but this is not the case in Delhi. Moreover
it is something which is cultured a lot among the peer
groups”.

4. Pragya Vokkaliga (friend) staying in Bangalore working

in Wipro: “Entrepreneurship is nothing but the process
of searching something new and turning it into a gainful
opportunity by accepting the risk and uncertainty with
the enterprise. This is something which was not much
encouraged here because people are very unlikely to
take financial risks. But due to the growth of the IT hub
in Bangalore people started to see the growing
opportunity of entrepreneurship. That is why the
scenario is quite the opposite of what it was before”.

5. Sanjay Rane (family friend) staying in Pune MBA

student: “A person who can solve a current problem or
gap in the market with his product and understanding
can be called as entrepreneur. My culture supports
entrepreneurs with a lot of perks. IT seems like the
people are born here with businessman mentality. A
child is almost trained since his very young age to be an
entrepreneur. The parents play a very vital role in the
development of this mentality of the child, they helps
their child in a lots of ways like giving valuable
information about the current market situation, and
showing us the way how to channelize those
information etc”.
2. When conducting homework exercise for another class
(especially a case analysis), ask yourself
comprehension questions, connections questions,
strategy questions and reflection questions. What
impact did this have on the outcome of the task?

After thinking about all these questions while doing

assignments, for the first time I was able to understand
the reason why this kind of assignments are given to us.
What can we gain from all these assignments and how
can they help us in the future with our careers. While
doing this assignment it was very clear to me how
society and culture plays a very important role in the
shaping of an entrepreneur. It was very clear that why
there are such a huge number of entrepreneurs in the
western part of the country but the eastern part can see
hardly any. This kind of assignments really gives us the
opportunity for market research and analysing the facts
minutely. And I am sure that this kind of analysing
ability will help me a lot in the future.
3. Ask two entrepreneurs and five students (whom you
do not know well to fill out the Haynie-Shepherd
“Measure of Adaptive Cognition”- (Questionnaire that
has been shared) – How do you rate your fellow
students? Discuss why you rate them.

On the basis of the result results which I have derived from
testing the cognitive adaptability I was able to understand
how:
 Entrepreneurs become dynamic, flexible, self regulating
and are able to obtain a variety of decision making
framework that focused on the ability to perceive and
process the changes in their environment. Such meta
cognitive process help to develop an entrepreneur mind
set.
 If we look at the basics of entrepreneurship,
entrepreneurs are goal oriented; they understand the
importance of creating, pursuing and ultimately meeting
goals. Such goals are originated from the consequence
of the environment.
 An entrepreneur enjoys dealing with external
constituents more. Meta cognitive knowledge helps
them to recognize different frameworks to formulate
response, different alternatives this gives them different
strategies to opt in the dynamic environment. They
search for innovative ideas and try to implement them.
They are not afraid to face challenges.
 They have strong belief in themselves and are openness
to chang , their meta cognitive experience helps them to
interpret the social world.
 Entrepreneurs have different personality characteristics
which makes them different from non-entrepreneurs,
the meta cognitive thinking helps in strategic decision
making in the dynamic environment.
Not only that I have also noticed
that some of the students have really very similar traits like
that of an entrepreneur. Their scores were even very similar.
It can be said that those students with similar scores like the
entrepreneurs may likely grow into one in the future.
