Commissioning Awareness

WATER FLUSHING

Water flushing involves large quantities of water that is used to flush the pipes and equipment. The
force of the water at the flush out point can harm people and cause damage to equipment. The
responsible area Commissioning Supervisor will co-ordinate with Area Const Supervisor in advance of
planned flushing activities and ensure for the compliance as below:

• Area will be fenced off or tape barricades / signs will be erected to segregate the area where
water may be discharged with force.

• Workers in the vicinity of the flush out area will be informed about the planned activity. If
necessary personnel will be removed from the affected area.

• Cover all electrical equipment, welding machines, temporary electrical supply systems, etc., or
remove them from the area.

PUMPS & COMPRESSOR RUNS

Once the installation is complete, the equipments like pumps & compressors will be run as part of PC&C
activities. The hazards are moving / rotating parts, sudden start up without warning, high noise etc.

Area around the pump or compressor under test will be barricaded with posting of Signs that states
“Equipment in Service – Keep Out” shall be in placed to cover all points of access.
