Facility Management PPM Task Sheet

Asset: Bus Bars & Ducts Created On: 20th August 2007.
Frequency: Annually

Health & Safety General Notices:


1. You must disconnect and lock out the electrical supply before commencing any Electrical work on this
asset, unless directed differently in the instructions below.
2. All tools should have proper insulation. You are to ensure that proper personal protective equipment is worn
at all times.
3. Post appropriate "Maintenance in Progress" sign in front of the asset.

Maintenance Instructions: Yes No Fault

Safety points:
1. Turn off the power to bus bar before performing any maintenance

Check the voltage of all incoming lines terminals to positively ascertain that bus bar
2. is totally de energised.

Maintenance:
If there is appreciable accumulation of dust or dirt, clean it of brush, vacuum
3. cleaner, or clean lint free rags.

4. Do not use compressed air, blower to do above operation.


5. Carefully inspect all electrical joints and terminals
If joint termination appear to be badly discolours, corroded or pitted should be
6. disassembled and cleaned or replaced
If joint termination shows evidence of having been subjected to high temperatures
7. should be disassembled & cleaned or replaced.

8. Visually check all bus bars for excessive noise. Moderate hum is normal

9. Look for any signs on to the bus bar. If so eliminate the bus source immediately.

Check the insulation resistance test with an insulation resistance tester rated 1000
10. Volts) prior to re energising the bus bar. A permanent record should be kept of
resistance reading

Check the insulation resistance for Phase to Phase & Phase to neutral, Phase to
11. ground) should be more than 1 MEG OHM.

Check all hangers. The hangers should be firmly secured & free from physical
12. damage

13. Check the bus bar are properly grounded


Check the bus bar housing. The housing should be free from of physical damage,
14. rust, debris & dust accumulation.

15. Make sure bus bar housing is not exposed to moisture.


Check all localised hot spot (Maximum hot spot temperature rise at any point the
16. bus way at continuous full load, should not exceed 55 deg c above the maximum
ambient temperature) .

17. Overheating of bus should be seen & rectified.

Precautions:
18. The bus bar temperature in the full load should not be more than 55 Deg.
The occurrence of sparking at any point along the bus bar is not a normal
19. condition. The bus bar must be de energised immediately.

20. The current should not exceed the current rating on the bus bar name palte.

21. Correct tools should be used. Do not try hardly. This may lead major incident.
