CHIPPING WORKS METHDOLOGY

1. SCOPE OF WORK
This document describes Construction Procedure pertaining to the activities
associated with the installation of Structured Cabling System Works at SM Mega
Tower. And include the furnishing of all materials, tools and equipment required
to complete the activity.
This document shall be read in conjunction with the relevant Specification,
Engineering Standards & drawings, Industry codes and any other additional
requirement as set forth by the Consultant.
The scope of work is for Chipping Works only.

3. SEQUENCE OF WORKS
a) Determine the structure that would be affected on the chipping activity.
b) With reference to the approved shop drawing, mark the area to be chipped.
c) Outlined the portion of concrete to be chipped off by saw cutting or grinding at both
sides.

d) Chip one area at a time using chipping hammer.

e)

Collect the debris and dust in appropriate containment.


f) Ensure complete opening is restored.

4. MAJOR PLANT AND EQUIPMENT


Materials and Tools needed to accomplish this methodology:

a) Approved Shop Drawing


b) Grinder
c) Chipping Hammer

5. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
8.1 Housekeeping
 Prior to installation make sure that the area is free from cluttered materials to
avoid any unwanted incident that may cause harm to the installation of EMT pipe
or damage to property.
 Conduct housekeeping before and after works. Maintain good housekeeping during
installation.
 Keep the staging area and working area free from scattered materials.
 Ensure that electrical wires during installation are secured to avoid tripping hazard.
 Follow the 5S procedure for good housekeeping.
 Coordinate to the General Contractor for the procedure of waste disposal and
temporary staging area for generated waste.

8.2 Tool box Meeting

 Project In-charge, Safety Officer and Foreman on site shall conduct daily toolbox
prior to start of daily work to provide proper instruction and to plan on how to
execute the job properly and safely.
 All workers are required to join the daily toolbox meeting and sign on the daily tool
box attendance.

8.3 Tools and Equipment

 Inspect all tools on a daily basis and or before use.


 Advise the workers always check the tools/equipment before use and report the
deffective tool/equipment to the immediate supervisor or safety officer on site.
 Do not use fabricated or defective tools for the installation of pvc pipe and boxes.
Immediately remove the defective tools from the site or tag with unsafe to use.
 Use the right tools for the job to avoid unwanted incident. Proper handling and use
of tools.
 Tools to be use on high places shall have a tools lanyard to avoid falling objects.
 Always keep tools in a safe place when not in use. Remove the battery or unplug
from the outlet when not in use.
 Do not remove machine guarding of any tools/ equipment. Machine guardings are
intended to protect the user from rotating parts of tools/equipment.
 Do not carry out any tools when climbing up or down from the ladder, H Frame
Scaffold or any means of access.

8.4 Barricade and signage


 Staging area for materials and all working area shall have an adequate barricade and
signage to warn the other people around. Use caution tape to barricade the working
area and provide signage.

8.5 Access

 Workers will use the A type ladder or approved design of scaffolding. When
climbing up and down, always follow the 3 point contact rules and always use the
hand rail of scaffold (2 hands I foot, 1 hand 2 feet).

8.6 Working Platform of Scaffold

 Always inspect the working platform either temporary or permanent to ensure in


good condition and report the defects.
 Avoid overloading of materials on working platform to avoid collapse and falling
objects.

8.7 Supervision

 In order to ensure that the workers are performing the job safely, full supervision of
foreman/ supervisor, safety officer and or assigned team leader are required to
ensure that all workers are executing the job safely.

8.8 Personal Protective Equipments

 All workers carrying out the installation are required to wear basic Personal
Protective Equipment (i.e. Hard hat with chinstrap, Goggles, Visibility Vest, and
Safety Shoes).
 All workers expose to excessive noise are required to wear ear plug or ear muff .
 Wear hand gloves when handling materials or any object with sharp edges.
 Face shield is required if the workers are performing cutting and grinding activity.
 Safety goggles and dust mask are required during drilling of floor to protect the
eyes from flying particles and to avoid dust inhalation.
 When the workers are performing his activity from 1.8 meters or above, full body
harness with double lanyard is required.

7. QUALITY ASSURANCE/CONTROL
Inspections
7.1 The execution of work will strictly follow the project quality procedure.

7.2 Parties and Products Requiring Accreditation or Certification


RESPONSIBILITIES
Key staff involved in the management / control of the work process and their responsibilities.
8.1 HPSICT PIC – Routes the Work Request (WAP) part to different trades and ensure to
complete the signatures of the related trade. To Conducts progress work inspection and testing
at project site (Refer on approved Inspection Test Plan (ITP) and Ensure to comply Quality
Control requirements).
