REVIEW OF LITERATURE, CONCEPTS AND THEORETICAL

FRAMEWORK

2.1 Review of Literature

In order to support this study going forward, the study uses three

undergraduate theses and one international journal that contained a topic that is

related to the present study.

The first undergraduate thesis from Sanjaya (2016) with title Metaphorical

Expressions Related to God Found in COCA: A Semantic Analysis. He mentioned

about the purpose of his study is to investigate the metaphorical expressions that

associated with the word ‘God’ found in COCA. Sanjaya (2016) in his study, he uses

a library research that involves a descriptive method in analyzing his data. The theory

of Conceptual Metaphor by Lakoff and Johnson is applied during this study. Sanjaya

(2016) uses Steen’s Five Procedure to analyze metaphor in his data. In this study

found the data covers all types of conceptual metaphors (Structural Metaphor,

Orientational Metaphor, Ontological Metaphor and Personification). 1000 words that

associated with God found in his study, beside Sanjaya (2016) complete that God is

usually being conceptualized as human. This study has relevancy with the present

study within the sense of conceptual metaphors, metaphorical expressions and the

way of analyzing data. The focuses of the study same as Sanjaya’s undergraduate

thesis, but the object of study use Devil as the domain.
