1. Chapter 12, Review and Discussion Questions on pp. 329-330. The use of power and politics
often involve ethical issues. What are the criteria that may be used to determine the extent to
which a manager’s behavior is ethical? Are there ever legitimate exceptions to these criteria?

rights of all parties involved. Also the equity of the behavior. P.307

prefer to develop for yourself: expert power or legitimate power? What are the advantages
and disadvantages of each of these sources of power? Explain.

Answer: I think expert powder is the one that I want to improve. Because expert powder is
based on the leader’s knowledge and skills and experience which shows that the manager or
the leader has the ability to do it. I think the advantages is that people can easy to manage the
organization and help the make decisions. Also, it may help people to gain trust to someone
in the origination. On the other hand, expert powder request high level of knowledge and
ability of leader who has to make their decision clearly. So it may influence the followers and
affect their decision making. p.310

improve favorableness? Does it really make sense for a leader to try to decrease
favorableness?

Answer: I think the degree of control over the situations depends on the problems, if the
leader wants to assign people’s work, they can request some particular skill from the
employees. Also the leader can increase their task for employees in order to affect people’s
work. I think it make sense for a leader try to decrease favorableness because leader wants to
see if the group or the organization would change if new leader comes. P.409

5. Chapter 15, Review and Discussion Questions on p. 428. Is there a cause-and-effect

relationship between leader behavior and follower performance? What is the nature or
direction of the relationship? How strong is the relationship?

Answer: I think there is no direct cause and effect relationship between leader and follower
performance because of causal variables, intervening variables and outcome. There is the
structure of the organization, the policies and the skill level of leader may change their
performance during work. Also, the motivations, the attitudes and the productivity could
affect the performance of leader and followers. I think followers may have questions or they
don't really trust their leader somehow. But there is no direct relationship between leader and
follower performance. P.411

job or even a job outside the company. On the task, you can see how students prepare on it,
and you can see their reactions during this task. It also can help them to gain more
experiences which is good for their future and make them successful.
