Teacher Tip

Materials:​ Props- coffee cups, mock money, apron

Activity: ​Coffee Shop Order

​Time: ​3 minutes max per student. Can be a fun game for presentation or lesson.

Directions​: Create an activity for ordering coffee, which is fairly universal activity. I will
introduce vocabulary pertaining to the week. Split up into teams (cashier and buyer), and practice
ordering coffee. It works for every level and can be taught for almost any subject.

Objective: ​To create a realistic simulated experience where students are immersed in a real life
situation where a student can practice their vocabulary.

Examples:
Learn numbers.​ I want two coffees.
Learn desire. ​I want an iced American.
Learn combinations. ​I want an iced American with a scone.
Learn to ask questions. ​Does the iced Americano have dairy?
Learn modifiers. ​I want the iced Americano, but no ice cubes
It can be simple. ​One coffee please​. It can be complex. ​How much does one iced Americano
cost?

Purpose: ​To use the communicative approach to practice repetition on vocabulary, put a kinetic
cognitive association to phrases, and set up real life situations where a student can be prepared
for possible future scenarios.

Materials:​ Magazines, Catalogs, Scissors, and Glue

Activity: ​For Christmas I want

​Time: ​15 minutes max per student. Can be a fun creative presentation or lesson.

Directions​: Create an activity for the holidays about a wish list or a list for Santa. This can
introduce the western concept of Santa. I will introduce vocabulary pertaining to the week as
well as go into describing desires. Have students cut out images and paste them onto black sheets
of paper where they will write what they want and why. It works for every level and can be
taught for almost any subject.

Objective: ​To create a realistic simulated experience where students are immersed in an every
day feeling where a student can practice their vocabulary and have fun. I want to see students
choose apparel, personal care, technology, etc. Items that are trending or popular.

Examples:
Looking for key terms such as:
“I want…
I wish…
I hope…
Santa please bring me…”

Purpose: ​To use the communicative approach to practice repetition on vocabulary, allow the
student to have fun and express their desires, to get comfortable and comfortable presenting and
voicing their personal taste.

Materials:​ Crayons

Activity: ​Story of the day

​Time: ​10 minutes max per student. Can be a fun creative presentation or lesson.

Directions​: Beginning of the day have a student draw a simple picture with crayons. It can be
silly and have animals. To draw whatever they want. After the 10 minutes, tell a simple little
story about what they drew. Encourage them to describe the colors they drew the objects and
animals or people in. Have them tell you about what the subjects want or where they are. It
works for every level and can be taught for almost any subject.

Objective: ​To create confidence in students presenting their personality through story. To think
about details and utilize the vocabulary they already know. To be comfortable in presenting and
to think outside the box.

Examples:

“This is”
They want
They have”

Modification: ​This can be used with any age group. Encourage funny voices, stories, any artistic
abilities. This a fun way to relax in a foreign language where there are no wrong answers.
