IV. COURSE DESCRIPTION

: This course introduces students to the different pacets of Philippine history through the lens of eyewitnesses. Rather than rely on secondary
materials such as textbooks, which is the usual approach in teaching Philippine History, different types of primary sources will be used written (Qualitative and
Quantitative), oral, visual, audio-visual, digital- especially today the learning system will be through online and virtual classes will be the modalities of learning
examining the multifaceted phenomenon of events taking place in the world today including the outbreak of epidemics and pandemics, wars, regional
and international financial crisis not only Philippine Economy status but considering the whole world crisis condition because of the pandemic, likewise by
covering various aspects of the Philippine life(political, economic, social, cultural). Students are expected to analyze the selected readings contextually and in
terms of content (stated and implied) The end goal is to enable students to understand and appreciate our rich past by deriving insights from those who were
actually present at the time of the event.

Context analysis considers the following (i) the historical content of the source(time and place it was written and the situation at the time) (ii)the author’s
background intent (to the extent discernable) and authority on the subject , and (iii) the source’s relevance and meaning today.

Content analysis on the other hand applies appropriate techniques depending on the type of source(written, oral, visual). In the process , students will be asked
for example to identify the author’s main argument the realm of history. To this end, the course will provides an overview of the debates in global governance,
development,

outside the Philippines, it seeks to inculcate a sense of Nationalism, Patriotism and remembering the works of different heroes , students must have the Ethical
Responsibility and Citizenship.

The course includes mandatory topics on the Philippine Constitution, Agrarian Reform and Taxation.

V. COURSE EXPECTED OUTCOME (CEO)

After completing this course, learners should be able to:

1. Pursue the UCC Vision & Mission through an awakened understanding of the different context, concepts and theories of Readings in Philippine History as it
is applied to everyday living;
2. Evaluate primary sources for the credibility and authenticity.

3. Analyze the context, content and perspective of different kinds of primary sources.

4. Determine the contribution of different kinds of primary sources in understanding in Philippine History

5. Develop critical and analytical skills with exposure to primary sources.

6. Effectively communicate, using various techniques and genres, their historical analysis of a particular event or issue that could help others understand the
chosen topic.

7. Propose recommendations/ solutions to present-day problems based on their understanding of root causes and their anticipation of the future scenarios.

9. Manifest the interest in local history and concern in promoting and preserving our country’s national patrimony and cultural heritage.

10. Utilize learners as potential source of ideas and solutions to the growing issues and challenges that confront the world today through an examination and
analysis of the contexts and concepts of Readings in Philippine History;

11. Develop hypothetical forecasts of future and likely events based on conditions and circumstances occurring in the international community;

12. Starting a better life by appreciating the diversified changes and turn of events taking place in the contemporary world; and

13. Become positive change makers of the nation by minimizing if not diminish the negative impact of existing worldwide events while pursuing the
continuance of positive ones.
