What Is Premature Ejaculation and What Are Its


Consequences?


Premature (or involuntary) ejaculation is a common issue that affects
at least 1 in 3 men. If you struggle with premature ejaculation (PE)
this means you come sooner than you or your partner want you to
during sexual intercourse. The severity of PE can range from
ejaculating during foreplay before penetration even occurs, to lasting
no more than 5 or 10 minutes. The amount of time you last may vary
or be more or less predictable. The bottom line though, is that you
cannot control when you ejaculate during intercourse.

For men who deal with coming too quickly, it’s common to feel
frustrated, embarrassed, or distressed. You may wonder whether your
performance is up to par and worry about whether your partner is
sexually satisfied. This may lead to avoiding sexual intimacy and
create relationship problems. 


What Causes PE?

Fundamentally, there are two main reasons why men struggle with
premature ejaculation: nature and nurture. 


First, as a member of the male species you are biologically wired to

ejaculate quickly during sex. It’s a matter of strategy to keep the


species going. And secondly, from the time you first started
masturbation, you developed particular habits and experienced
conditioning that reinforced this biological programming to ejaculate
sooner rather than later.


Those body-mind habits you developed during masturbation are still
with you to this day. They are entirely unconscious and they follow you
to the bedroom whenever you make love with a partner. 


As those mental and physical habits became ingrained, they were
hardwired as neural pathways in your brain. So, once you reach a
certain level of arousal, whether during masturbation or sex, a whole
cascade of physiological events get automatically triggered that make
it virtually impossible not to ejaculate. 


If you tried to identify the mental and physical behaviors you

“The Press, The Pull, The Squeeze”



The Press, the Pull, the Squeeze: These are the modern day names for
techniques that originated in the ancient sexual-spiritual traditions of
China, Japan, and India. Those cultures had a far more sophisticated
and expansive understanding of human sexuality than our current
modern Western culture because they viewed sexuality holistically and
appreciated it as a powerful phenomenon that contributed to optimal
physical health, emotional well-being, social good, and spiritual
evolution. 


I get frustrated when I hear stories from my clients who have seen
medical doctors, urologists, or even professional sex therapists and
report they have been told that their problem “is all in their head,” “it’s
all mental,” or that all they need to do is to “breathe” or do “PC
squeezes.” None of this is helpful, accurate, or adequate information.
The only solution is a holistic one that involves mental, emotional,
physical, and energetic principles together. 


The following delay techniques involve physical gestures and breathing
techniques that essentially “short circuit” the flow of sexual energy in
the body and interrupt your orgasmic response. The more you can
perform them with calm emotion and a quiet, focused mind, the better.

Experiment with each one of these techniques on their own during


self-stimulation and then try them out in lovemaking with a partner.
Find the one that works best for you, is most reliable, and easiest to
perform. 


What’s important about all three of these techniques is good timing.
Get to know your own sexual response so that you can identify the
feeling sensations in your body associated with the approaching
moment of “no return.” Perform the technique in the instant you begin
to feel those sensations. Don’t wait until it’s too late!

1. "The Press” (See figure 1). When you feel you are approaching the
moment of “ejaculatory inevitability,” inhale slowly and firmly press
the mid-point between the anus and the scrotum with three of your
fingers of your right hand. Angle the pressure up and back so that
your fingers are aiming toward the "million dollar point." Hold the
pressure for about 30 seconds as you breathe naturally, in and out
through the nose. Once you feel the urgency to ejaculate pass,
gently release the pressure and continue stimulation.

2. "The Pull” (See figure 2). As you near orgasm, your scrotum will rise
up closer to your body. As that starts to happen, wrap your thumb and
index finger around the top of the scrotal sack and gently pull your
testicles in a downward motion, away from the body. Maintain the hold
while you breathe slowly in and out through the nose for about 30
seconds or until the urgency to ejaculate subsides.

3. "The Squeeze” (See figure 3). As you feel yourself approaching “the
point of no return,” withdraw your penis. Place the thumb on top and
your forefingers underneath your penis at the frenulum where the
glans connects to the shaft. Squeeze firmly and steadily for 10 to 20
seconds until you feel your impulse to ejaculate pass.

Next Steps

The 3 instant delay techniques I introduced to you here are a great


place to start because they are easy to learn, effective, and (with a
little practice) work right away. 


There is a downside to these techniques, however, because they are
not very “elegant.” They force you to interrupt the flow of sex and
either pull out or reach down awkwardly in order to perform them.


There are two categories of ejaculatory delay techniques: external and
internal. The ones introduced here are external techniques. To give an
analogy, if you were learning to ride a bike for the first time, the
external techniques are like “training wheels.” At some point you will
want to take them off because you will have learned to develop your
balance internally. 


The internal stamina techniques involve controlled use of your mind,
breath and internal muscular movements in order to influence the
flow, intensity, and direction of sexual energy in your body. When you
perform these techniques, your partner won’t even realize it. She will
