SITE SAFETY MEETING - TOOL BOX TALK

BEING A GOOD SPOTTER

There are many important aspects of being a good spotter. The driver or operator must be able to
see you. Positive eye contact and a safety vest are always critical. They cannot see you in their
blind spots. Things to look out for before backing or pulling a truck or machine are:

• Foot Traffic
• Adjacent work
• Groups
• Open excavations
• Electrical Cords
• Crossing Roadway
• Traffic Bollards
• Fence posts & cones (just to name a few)

When backing a vehicle up on site both the driver and spotter should agree on exactly where to
stop the vehicle. With proper planning and a clear path, you shouldn’t have any trouble being a
good spotter.
