Manufacturing Processes Laboratory

1.0 TITLE : 3D Printer Machine

2.0 OBJECTIVES:
1. To study the principle operation of a 3D Printer machine
2. To produce simple plastic products using 3D Printer via different parameters
3. To inspect the quality of products produce then make a comparison

3.0 INTRODUCTION:

3D printing refers to processes in which material is joined or solidified under

computer control to create a three-dimensional object with material being added together
(such as liquid molecules or powder grains being fused together). 3D printing is used in both
rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing (AM). Objects can be of almost any shape or
geometry and typically are produced using digital model data from a 3D model or CAD or
another electronic data source such as an Additive Manufacturing File (AMF) file (usually in
sequential layers). Products produced from 3D Printer can be used as pattern or prototype or

parts depend on materials used. The printing concept in 3D Printers is heated raw materials is
inject or print through nozzle layer by layer on bed.

4.0 APPARATUS

MATERIALS: ABS and PLA filaments

EQUIPMENT: 3D Printer Machine

5.0 EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE

i. To prepare the 3D printer (bed levelling, filaments, drawing)

ii. make sure 3D printers parameters has been set
iii. Generate the printing product using appropriate parameters and conditions.
iv. Solidified finished product obtain from bed
V. Inspect the product quality and make a comparison.

6.0 RESULTS & DATA ANALYSIS

Demonstrate the principle operation of 3D Printer using appropriate diagrams. Label all the
parts in the machine and explain the functionality of each section. Visually check the
products produce and present in a simple datasheet.

7.0 DISCUSSION OF RESULT

By inspecting the product obtained, discussed the dimension, surface roughness and possible
cause defects occurred after the 3D Printer process. Discuss the relationship between the
input parameters and the produced products.
