Education is an essential tool that is applied in the influential and intellectual world to
achieve success, as it mitigates the challenges which are experienced in life. In fact,
it is a key to the enlightenment of mankind. Nelson Mandela was quoted saying,
‘‘Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. In
addition, it intensifies our self-assurance and provides us with the abilities required in
today’s world. It also enables us to become more independent and aware of what is
going on around us.
With my strong will and predefined goals since long, I managed to seek admission
in an undergraduate program of Civil Engineering at “ University of IT and Emerging
Sciences Peshawar, Pakistan” which is considered as one of the finest engineering
varsities of Pakistan. I completed Bachelor’s Degree from university, Peshawar,
Pakistan, in September 2018. I secured 3.10 / 4.00 CGPA (76% marks) and
secured 9th position (out of 120 students) in my batch. I remained an active student
in the university during my undergraduate studies, and was involved in numerous
extracurricular activities for e.g. sports (cricket and badminton), active participation
in societies, and quiz competitions. While studying, I took a keen interest in each
topic related to civil engineering which was taught in the class. Inspite of this, my
basic nature has always swayed me to focus on those issues which require in-
depth thinking. The Transportation related subjects like, Transportation planning
and management, Highway engineering, Traffic engineering and railway
engineering always drew my attention to persue studies in this field. I always find it
interesting to solve multitudes of assignments and mini projects in the aforementioned
subjects. It was further cultivated when I began attending seminars conducted by an
eminent civil engineer, Dr Syeda Rubina Gilani, on smart traffic planning at our
university.
To tell you more about my final year project, titled “Comprehensive investigation
of river bed material in River Kabul” with the help of Computer Design Aids like
ETAB software and MS Excel. Though several works had been carried out on
concrete asphalt, but I chose to go for the river bed which had been left unattended
before. My research provided satisfactory results for potential use of river bed
material in asphalt. When in eight semester, I started working with AFQAR construction
company and supervised various site activities. Upon completion of my studies, I started
my professional career as a Trainee Junior Engineer in rural road rehabilitation project
with NESPAK construction company. NESPAK is a reputable national organization

covering most of the mega developing projects in Pakistan.
To dedicate myself to the studies of Transportation Engineering is my passion and
personal choice. My country Pakistan population is exponentially increasing which
directly increase the number of vehicles on roads resulting in traffic jams as there is no
proper planning according to population increase. I was once stuck in a traffic jam and I
saw an ambulance which couldn’t make it hospital because of no emergency route
which resulted in loss of a life. On that day I made my mind to study smart traffic
planning and intelligent transportation system. Most of the times one can’t make it in
time wherever one is heading to because of severe traffic jams. The traffic signal
network system is not intelligent enough the way it is in China where intelligent
transportation system and congested city traffic is tremendous. Pakistan is almost
twenty years behind in traffic system which is not acceptable due to rapidly increasing
the population. This is the need of the hour and once I attain full command over the
knowledge regarding traffic and intelligent transportation system, I’m pretty certain that I
shall play a productive role in its revival. Also, another reason for pursuing master
degree in transportation engineering that I got an impressive grade in transportation
related subjects in bachelor degree. The objectives are.
 To produce free flow of traffic
 Provide highly efficient traffic flow through ample research and innovative
design efforts.
 Use the research that increase traffic safety

After arriving in China my study plan will be as follows:

 I would invest my time in covering course work and research work
simultaneously as I am pretty confident that I am capable of doing it.
 Learning Chinese language. Alongside, I will also participate in seminars.
 I will carry out my research plan, arrange detailed experimental plan, analyze
the results and modify the schemes. High quality research papers are
expected to be published in international academic journals during this period.
 At the beginning of the last year, I will finish the research thesis formalities. I
will return to Pakistan as soon as I finish my master study program. I plan to
undergo Ph.D. in the same field. I hope one day, I could set up my own
Transportation Engineering Research Lab.
 Play a role in strengthening the bilateral relationship between Pakistan and
China.

I am a humble person with flexible nature and adaptability to work in multicultural

environment. I believe that the environment and people around a person bring
changes in one’s personality. I always work hard and put my all efforts in order to
reach my set goals. I can work well even in an under-pressure situation. Also, I am
friendly natured person who enjoys spending part of time with friends and family. I
enjoy working together with professionals to learn new techniques and approaches
in the field of engineering. I really feel pleasure to help others with dedication.

I prefer China for pursuing masters in Transportation Engineering because I have

studied about the high-profile transportation engineering projects likes Chinese road
in Beijing and smart traffic system in Beijing roads for Olympic 2008. Other reason
is its diverse culture, versatile language, variety of food and most importantly the
progress made in the field of technology. The strong relationship between China
and Pakistan is another chief reason due to which I think it is an appropriate place
for me to study. If you will offer me a position in your research team, then after

completion of my studies, I will return to Pakistan and contribute my knowledge in
the field of Transportation Engineering. Being a Pakistani citizen, it is one of the
best place for me because China-Pakistan already has strong economic, business,
friendly relations but in near future China-Pakistan economic corridor (CPEC)
expected to be completed and become operational, which is going to strengthen the
relations between both countries. Setting all these reasons together makes China
unique place for me to graduate.

Southwest Jiaotong university is one of the top ranked and national key university in
China. It is one of the oldest universities found in 1896 and became one of the
global top ranked, renowned, prestigious and high quality academic delivering
university. Southwest Jiaotong university is best suited for me as it is national key
university directly administrated under ministry of education of China and it provide
wide range of Engineering English instructed programs, especially Master of
Transportation Engineering program, which is my research interest.
I am very keen to work in the research facility of transportation engineering at this
University. At Southwest Jiaotong University, I would like to draw on my
Transportation analysis, research and experiential working experience background
as a strong foundation for studying advanced concepts, which will equip me with the
latest tools and knowledge to be competitive. This will give me an opportunity to add
something valuable on the global scale to the mankind, which will be coherent with
the vision of the Civil Engineers.
