BEGIN

K-12 basic education curriculum


offers challenging and creative ways of
learning that would surely develop
promptness in mind, acquisition of
suitable 21st century competencies in the
level of knowledge and skills to pursue
better lives for our leaners. Hence, every
competency is essential to develop our
learners holistically especially in
expressing his own thoughts and ideas in
a creative way, one of which is through
writing his or her actual experience or
feelings. Thus, writing a diary is an
essential competency believed to
promote the said learning area.
Writing a diary can help learners
process their feelings, build writing skills,
and communicate their
ideas. It encourages a child to grow
while discovering open-ended writing.
This is an interesting and creative way of
expressing their thoughts and own ideas.
This module will guide and
encourage learners on how to write diary
based on their own feelings with the use
of text they read.

TARGET

At the end of this lesson, you should be able to:


1. write a diary;
2. understand the purpose of writing a diary; and
3. write a diary entry with the help of the given important
points and format.

The Boat Parade

The boats are floating along the lakeshore. It is the summer


boat parade last month of May. There are motorboats, rowboats
and sailboats. Jessica’s favorite is the yellow motor boat with the
flag. The rowboat decorated with flowers is Lisa’s favorite. Tony likes
the purple sailboat. The boats float by one at a time. The people on
the boats waive at the crowds. The crowds cheer the boats. The
boat parade is so much fun to watch. It is the best part of the
summer.

Important Points in Writing a Diary

A diary is a written record of personal experiences, thoughts


and feelings. It can be considered as a friend with whom you can
be yourself, and share your intimate thoughts and emotions. You can
keep a daily record of the people you meet, the exciting things that
you do at home or at school, the memories of a holiday or a

common place in everyday events. You can use a ready diary
having dates printed on all pages or a notebook.

If the diary does not have a printed date, write the date on
which you are making the entry, on the top corner of the fresh page.
You may address the diary as a friend and write “Dear Diary”, or just
continue to write your diary entry. Write it in the first person, since this
is your personal story or account of the event. You may write the
events in the correct order. Write about your feelings in detail and
explain why you feel that way. You may use simple or informal
language, but avoid informal words.
