alarm system. Such tables are to be attached to this checklist .

Pre-bunkering Checklist
Check: 
Advised fuel specification offered by the supplier confirmed acceptable to all installed engine manufacturers
requirements / yachts preferred fuel specification?
Sulphur Content confirmed to be within regulatory limits for intended cruising areas whilst using this fuel
Flashpoint confirmed to be above 60 ºC
Have all senior staff of yacht been informed of impending bunker procedure
Ensure that no hot work is scheduled to be carried out
Has engine room been informed not to transfer oil internally
Are moorings adequate
Are pipelines not in use blanked and valves shut
Are selected yacht’s manifold, lines and tank valves open
Have yacht’s tanks been sounded and checked for temperature and quantity
Is overflow tank empty
Check overflow alarms, sightglasses, and/or any other means of detecting overflow
Are deck scuppers and driptrays/savealls plugged
Is Oil Spill Response equipment readily available (absorbent materials, scoops, buckets, containers, rubber
gloves, boots, oil resistant suits, etc, as specified in yacht’s SOPEP)
Are initial fire fighting appliances on stand-by
Are transfer procedures and drawings available at manifold
Are NO SMOKING signs in place
Is SOPEP emergency plan known and readily available
Are local regulations being followed
Is B-flag hoisted / Red signal light showing
Is adequate deck lighting provided
Are clean container and sample bottles ready
Is drip sampling device ready
Has the supplier’s tanks been checked for quantity, temperature, water
Are suppliers calibration tables approved
Has supplier been informed that yacht will take samples via approved continuous drip method at yacht
manifold and that supplier will be offered a representative sample on completion of bunkering?
Are delivery hoses/hard arms long enough
Are delivery hoses supported to prevent kinking
Is hose-to-manifold connection safe and secure, i.e. flange fully bolted with new gasket, or cam lock fittings
properly coupled and secured, or other type of connection
Is the delivery hose in a reasonably good condition
If more than one source of supply, a sample is to be taken for each source
Are all persons required for the bunkering procedure present
Inform engine room and deck watch when starting to bunker

During Bunkering
Check: 
Keep continuous watch both at manifold and in Engine Room
Check yacht’s moorings
Check hoses and barge’s moorings to yacht
Check flow rate to all ships tanks
Take samples by continuous drip method & witness supplier sampling
Inform supplier 30 minutes before topping off
Keep deck watch & engine room informed of progress

Completion of bunkering
Check 
Close manifold valve
Ensure bunker supply hose is depressurised before disconnection
Once hose is disconnected, replace the blind flange on the manifold connection and clean up any minor fuel
drips resulting from the hose (dis-)connection work
Inform deck watch & engine room of completion
Check suppliers tanks to confirm amount supplied
Prepare sufficient samples from the primary sample after thorough shaking
Check all is satisfactory before signing forms & sample bottle labels
Exchange sample bottles with supplier.
Prepare one sample for courier pick-up, as per Fuel testing procedures supplied by testing service provider
(if normally undertaken)
Store 1 ‘MARPOL’ sample and one back-up sample (for possible re-testing) in a suitable storage space on
board
Ensure supplier hands over the Bunker Delivery Note(BDN) to the C/E, accurately completed
Check BDN shows a statement of compliance with MARPOL VI regulations (refuse if not)
Ensure supplier hands over a copy of the MSDS pertaining to the fuel oil bunkered
Complete entries in engine room log and oil record book, and file BDN and other associated documentation.
Please note BDN must be held on board for 3 years
