Attendance

Who are absent today? Nobody’s absent Ma’am.

Very good!

Collecting and Checking of

Assignment:

You have your assignment with you? Yes, Ma’am.

Okay, please pass your assignments now. (Students will pass their assignment)
Review

Let’s review what we have discussed last

meeting.

Who can give me the definition of the

domain of a function?
Yes Masula? Ma’am, domain is the set of all x-
coordinates in the set of ordered pairs.

How about the range of a function? Ma’am, range is the set of all y-
Yes Daligdig? coordinates.

Okay, for example:

X -4 -1 3 6 9
Y 16 1 9 36 81

Who can give me the domain and range of

this function?
Domain= {-4, -3, 1, 3, 6, 9}
Yes Tagubar? Range = {1, 9, 16, 36, 81}

Very good!

Motivation

I have here some pictures

(teacher will show the pictures)

What have you noticed in the picture?

Yes Montila? Operations on integers ma’am.

Very good!

What are those operations on integers?

Yes Baslao? Ma’am the operations on integers are
addition, subtraction, multiplication,
and division.

Very good!

Thank you Becerro.

This afternoon, we will be performing the

operations on functions.

OPERATIONS ON FUNCTIONS

Given two functions f and g,

1. ADDITION
-denoted by f + g , is the
function defined by
(f + g )( x )=f ( x )+ g( x )
2. SUBTRACTION
-denoted by f −g , is the
function defined by
(f −g)( x )=f ( x )−g( x )
3. MULTIPLICATION
-denoted by f⋅g , is the
function by
(f⋅g )( x )=f ( x )⋅g( x )
4. DIVISION
f
-denoted by g , is the function
f f ( x)
defined by g
( x)= ()
g( x )

Example:
Given that f (x )=2 x−4 and
g( x )=x−2 , find the following :

a. (f +g )( x )
b. (f −g)( x )
c. (f⋅g )( x )

d.
( gf )( x )
Solution:
a.
(f + g )( x )=(2 x−4 )+( x−2 )
=2 x−4 + x−2
=2 x+ x−4−2
=3 x−6
b.
(f −g)( x )=(2 x−4 )−( x+2)
=2 x−4−x −2
=2 x−x−4−2
=x−6
c. (f⋅g )( x )=(2 x−4 )( x−2)

=2 x 2−2 x−4 x+8

¿ 2 x 2 −6 x+8
f 2 x −4
d.
()g
( x )=
x−2
2( x−2 ) Yes Ma’am.
=
x−2
=2
Yes Ma’am.
Generalization:

Did you understand the topic that we We have 4 operations Ma’am.

discussed a while ago?

Will you be able to perform operations on

functions?

How many operations on functions do we

have?

Okay, very good!

In performing math operations, it needs a
wide span of patience for you to be able
to come up a comprehensive answer. At
the same time, you will be able to know
how to solve problems at a time.

Application:

A. Group Activity
I will group you into 4. Each
group will select a reporter and
they will be given two minutes to
perform their task. Then, they will
present their assigned task in front
and explain their work.

Given that f (x )=2 x−3 and

2
g( x)=x
 Group 1:
Find the (f +g )( x )
 Group 2:
Find the (f −g)( x )
 Group 3:
Find the (f⋅g )( x )
 Group 4:

Find the
( gf )( x )
B. Individual Activity
(select students randomly to answer)

Instruction: Perform the indicated

operation given that f (x )=2 and
g( x )=x−1 , find the following
a. (f −g)( x )

b.
( gf )( x )
IV. EVALUATION
Instruction: Perform the indicated operation.
2
g( x )=x +3 and h( x )=x , find the following. (5 points each) (10 minutes)

a. (g +h )(x )
b. (g⋅h )( x )

Result:
5 4 3 2 1 0

V. ASSIGNMENT
r 3 −4 r 2 r 2 +12 r
b(r )= k (r )=
Instruction: Given that r 2 + 4 r −12 and r 3−3r 2 . Find
following.
1. (b+k )(r )
2. (b−k)(r )
3. (b⋅b )(r )
k
4. r ()
(r )
