In the website called Britannica, pavement in our chosen field civil engineering ,
is a durable surfacing of a road, airstrip, or similar area. The primary function of a
pavement is to transmit loads to the sub-base and underlying soil which means it has
levels or phases just like sub -grade and its sub - base. Today there are a modern
pavements contain new aggregates such as sand, gravel or crushed stone compacted
with a binder of bituminous material as asphalt, tar or asphalt oil. Now in the other
hand rehabilitation is the action of restoring something that has been damaged to its
former condition. In this context I’m gonna summarize what I learn in this chapter or
topic which is pavement rehabilitation. Pavement rehabilitation in definition is the
restoring of damaged pavements or extending the pavements’ service life. It is also
considered as improving the pavements’ performance and its durability.

Why do we need to rehabilitate our pavements in the first place? We rehabilitate

because the continuous use of our pavement structures also weary or shorten its
lifespan on the other side some of it our damaged through accidents, natural calamities
or it is already done with its life span. Also, increased traffic frequency and axle loads
combined with changes in pavement temperature exert stresses on asphalt pavements.
Due to its temperature changes of different types of vehicles that touch those pavement
surfaces it may result of cracks in the asphalt pavement. To rehabilitate a pavement we
must consider its historical data, its assess functional condition such as its flexibility,
visual rating and if its still good in function, we should also consider its response to
loads or its structural assessment. We must also evaluate also the previous and the
present used materials. In rehabilitating pavements we must identify its pavement type,
our purpose why we must rehabilitate and we must compile recent evaluation data.
After that we can select the alternatives and options on what rehabilitation we might
proceed of.

Keeping or maintaining our existing road pavement in a serviceable condition

might be a major challenge not only in our field civil engineering but also to all road
authorities world - wide. We are finding new ways, high quality and safe measures for
our road pavements in order to satisfy the needs of the people who use the road
structures we create. Though they may be advantages and disadvantages on the
rehabilitation option that have chosen but the important thing is we must care for it for
we hold the lives of the public. Therefore, knowing this rules and concepts according to
our countries laws are a must. We must continue to thrive for our better good.
