Group Task 3

The article has mentioned many political problems that the country has encountered for the past years
and the condition continued to worsen even if we change our political leaders. It was said that the cycle
will continue as long as politicians prioritize their personal interest rather than those of the public. One
of the ideologies Rizal had was nationalistic and patriotic approach to help the country. His undying love
and devotion for the country was the reason why he is more than willing to sacrifice his life.

As a group, we believed that promoting nationalism and patriotism to the current and future
generations is the key to solve national matters. If we establish firm ground to first love the country and
consider further improving its condition will surely fix the problems be it politics or economy because
this burning passion and love is what we are lacking. It is given that the current political leaders are
selfish and corrupted, but if we have more patriotic and nationalistic citizens who are willing to fight for
the future of the country, we could then resort peaceful reforms. Rizal’s nationalistic enthusiasm had
pushed him to write his novels and as of now, more youths are being involved to reveal the current
state of our nation. As the country continues to go downhill because of the current official’s selfishness,
these youth used their social media accounts as their platform to raise awareness and serve as a light for
those who turn a blind eye to the issues today. Some youths have also started to join protests that were
held for their opinions to be heard by the government and to call out the wrongful actions made by the
higher ranks. It is like looking at a modern world Rizal where people are not afraid to speak up and
intellectually criticize the government. Rizal’s peaceful approach was translated to current generation.
However, Rizal never mentioned that he disagreed to engage into revolutionist approach. He mentioned
in his letter to Blumentritt that if ever provoked, he is willing to participate to it however he thinks that it
is still premature to initiate this plan. In other words, corruption and democratic problems would be
solved by establishing nationalism and patriotism, then reforms would follow.
