The return to school in the pandemic because of COVID19

Coronavirus comes from a group of viruses that cause infections such as flu to pneumonia

and that was identified for the first time in Wuhan, China. One of the biggest concerns is

that it’s spreading at a high rate. Because of this, as it hasn’t been discovered a cure to

prevent the infection yet, the most important is take measures to stop its spreading. For this

reason, I consider that coming back to classes during the pandemic isn’t prudent, because

it’s at stake the health of the students.

The reasons why I don’t agree with the in-person classes are: First, educative institutions

aren’t prepared for this, there are neither existing protocols of biosecurity, nor infrastructure

conditions, also there aren’t the needed sanitary units, even the Fecode chairman said

“Public schools have difficulties for the semi-presential back to school in the middle of the

pandemic. In the immense majority of institutions don’t exist the necessary elements like

soap, hand sanitizer or towels. This is worse in rural zones. And the Government hasn’t

sent the minimum resources for the schools to adapt themselves and protect the students’

life” [ CITATION AIL20 \l 2058 ]

In second place, the cases in Colombia raises every day. The last report from the Health and

Social Protection Ministry, delivered Sunday 5th of July, confirmed 3721 new cases, 122

more deceased for a total of 4064, while 47881 patients have recovered. Thus, parents Will

not be in favor of sending their children to in-person classes, as it is not matter of going

back just because or focus in academics but putting wellness of the students first.

This crisis set us the urgent challenge of transformation towards more resilient and

prepared systems. Hereby, is really important get to adapt to virtual education during the
pandemic because it ensures the wellness of the students and also is a way of teaching that

includes pedagogic elements linked to the Informatics and communication technologies.

On the other hand, the benefits that provides the virtual education is that the students’ time

is flexible, it also promotes an autodidact attitude, each one manages its own process and

promotes independency in learning.

To conclude, it would be seen neither an optimal behavior, nor a collaboration attitude on

people’s part, therefore, enable in-person classes would be open the doors to get each and

every single one of the students infected, and that would be missing all the sanitary

restrictions that have been taking part so far, this is why is very important to get to adapt to

the situation through the tools that virtuality provides and stop risking our lives.
