INTRODUCTION

The Department of Education (DepEd) in the Philippines has implemented the new normal system in education
as a response to the challenge posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has also affected the education
sector. The new normal system in education includes an alternative mode of learning such as online classes
for students and a modular approach to prevent virus transmission. With this premise, some students will be
unable to keep up because not all students can afford to purchase gadgets that will enable them to participate
in an online learning portal, and some students will have good technologies to use, but an internet connection
will be another issue to contend with. Globally, web-based distant education is gaining traction as a means of
augmenting or replacing traditional education.

This was a descriptive research to identify the strengths and weaknesses of web-based instruction for Our
Lady of Fatima University nursing students. In the field of nursing, where there is a time problem between
the family and school, web-based training programs must be standardized. Increased research into how to
integrate these programs into continuing education, with the outcomes reflected in their practices.
Distance learning over the internet is seen as a viable way to supplement or replace traditional nursing
education. However, no systematic assessment of the impact of web-based remote education in nursing
has been found.

The goal of this study is to see if web-based training is helpful or if it is a good idea to train nursing
students at home in an online class rather than attending a face-to-face session in this time of pandemic.
Researchers will investigate how successful and efficient web-based teaching for nursing students can be,
as well as the drawbacks of such training in terms of time management and stress on students. In terms
of nursing student training, researchers wish to understand the differences between the traditional
strategy and the web-based approach.

The goal of the study is to distinguish and evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of web-based
training. This will also assist the researchers in determining what nursing perceptions are. This will also
assist researchers in determining what nursing students' perceptions of web-based training are in this time
of pandemic, and whether they believe they can still perform high-quality activities without using different
equipment that is not available at home. This web-based training will be more recognizable than traditional
nursing training.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The COVID-19 epidemic has impacted the educational landscape. It has transitioned from a typical face-
to-face arrangement to a new environment of web-based learning, with educators striving to replicate
traditional classroom practices that are currently unacceptably ineffective. Despite concerns about student
learning and the possibility of change during the pandemic, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED)
advocated for the start of school.

The unanticipated change brought on by the pandemic, combined with a lack of time to prepare for it,
creates a new battleground for teachers and students, particularly for nursing students, who should learn
in a real-world setting rather than through web-based learning. In the future, they will be working with real
patients.

Because not all students can afford reliable data, nursing students will have difficulty coping with some
lectures in web-based learning. Many students are unable to keep up with their virtual classmates due to a
lack of sufficient bandwidth or a robust internet connection required for online courses (Kumar, 2015).
According to estimates from the Department of Education (DepEd), enrollment in kindergarten through
college for the school year 2020-2021 fell by more than 25% from the previous year (Agoncillo, 2020).
Many pupils are afflicted by the epidemic, which will persist if COVID-19 is still there.

In terms of online study concerns, the majority of subjects were unable to keep a regular schedule,
experienced network troubles, had less student-teacher interaction, and had insufficient access to learning
materials, among other things. To make the online study more productive, enough resources, a proper
schedule, and technological assistance, among other things, are required (Ijar, 2020).

Nursing preparation is a mix of theoretical and practical learning experiences that equip nursing students
with the knowledge, skills, and mindsets needed to provide nursing care.

A legitimate time schedule, good student-teacher connection, appropriate instructional learning material,
and so on are all necessary to overcome the challenges of web-based training for nursing students. Then,
nursing students' perceptions of internet learning will not only aid in evaluating instructional approach, but
will also cause institutions to plan web-based learning that will be beneficial to nursing students during
pandemics.

A pandemic (Covid 19) is a public health emergency that can cause significant death and economic
hardship. In which nurses play a critical role in the public health response to such disasters, providing
direct patient care and lowering the risk of infection. Individual nurses, society, and the nursing profession
may all suffer short- and long-term consequences as a result of their experiences providing nursing care
in this setting.

Nurses face a variety of issues as a result of the pandemic. It causes nurses anxiety about their patients,
who may infect family members, and many nurses are still dealing with the financial consequences of the
pandemic. COVID-19 has impacted the mental health of nurses on a scale of 10,8 out of ten, according to
a Nursing Standard survey. (2021, Preace).

What is Web-Based Training (WBT) and how does it impact nursing students? In many countries, web-
based learning has established itself as a valid and effective tool for supporting practical learning in
undergraduate nursing students, whether used alone or in conjunction with traditional teaching methods.

As a result, web-based training is a more learner-centered method that allows learners to engage in
learning at their own pace and in a convenient location, allowing them to balance professional
development with personal and work obligations.

On the other hand, employing a web-based nursing program is beneficial since it allows students to learn
at their own pace and in their own environment. It also allows students to be self-directed. As a result, it
gives kids the capacity to connect to the internet and download resources that are critical to their
educational needs.
