5. For water supply of a town water is pumped from a river 30 km away into a reservoir.
The difference in water level of river and reservoir is 20 m. A city with 50,000
population to be supplied water at 120 lpcd from a river. if the demand has to be supplied
in 8 hr.
Assume f = 0.03, velocity in the pipe as 2.0 m/sec and efficiency of pump as 75 %. find
out horsepower of pump if peak demand 1.5 times the average.

8. What are the differences between on street and off-street parking? When there are low
traffic on a wide road which parking will you recommend angular or parallel?

On-Street Parking Off-Street Parking

1. vehicles are parked on the street 1. Vehicle is parked anywhere but, on the
street.
2. Cost relatively low 2. Cost relatively low
3. No need of extra land 3. Need of land and extra facilities
4. High risk 4. Safe

I would recommend Angular parking because

• Easy to park
• Easy to exit
• Requires less turning radius
• Less likely to get blocked in
• Less chance of collision
• Parking capacity will be more than the parallel
