By the light of the moon, a tiny egg lay on a leaf.
Can you find the egg?
On Sunday a tiny and very hungry caterpillar
popped out of the egg. Touch the caterpillar.

On Monday he ate through one apple.

He was still hungry.
 2

On Tuesday he ate through two pears.

He was still hungry.
 3

On Wednesday he ate through three plums.

He was still hungry.
 4

On Thursday he ate through four strawberries.

He was still hungry.
 5

On Friday he ate through five oranges.

He was still hungry.
On Saturday he ate through one piece of
chocolate cake, one ice cream cone,
one pickle , one slice of Swiss cheese,
one slice of salami, one lollipop,
one piece of cherry pie, one sausage,
one cupcake, and one slice of watermelon.
Saturday night he had a tummy ache.
The next Sunday he ate through one big, green
leaf. His tummy felt better.
He was not a little caterpillar anymore. He was a
big, fat caterpillar. Touch the caterpillar.
He built a cocoon around himself and stayed inside.
In two weeks he ate a hole in the cocoon, and pushed
his way out. Out popped a beautiful butterfly!

 Directions with pictures for the story
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
* Pages 3-20 will be laminated
* Page 3 will be cut on the dotted line and each individual picture at the bottom will be
cut out and have Velcro attached to the backside. (they will then stick to the bottom of
page 20)
* Page 4-19 will be cut on the dotted line. & laminated. Velcro is then put in appropriate
places on each page.
* Page 20 is the ONLY page that remains a FULL SHEET!-Velcro is then attached to the
individual boxes on the bottom. & the pictures individually cut from page 3 will Velcro to
them…like a matching game.
* The book will be bound ,(stapled, or put in a 3 pronged folder) at the top. Your book
should then be a ½ page book that flips and still allows the manipulative pieces or choice
board to be visible on the last page throughout the story.
