A couple lives together, the man spends all of his time sitting on the sofa
watching TV and yelling at his wife to make him a sandwich. Eventually
the wife gets fed up by this and puts soap in his sandwich, then poo and
finally some broken glass.
Very simple setting, just in a domestic house. Throughout the short we only
see 3 rooms, the living room with the husband, the kitchen and a small
closet with the wife.
The cinematography is actual very consistent. The camera is only placed in
5 different locations throughout the short: 1 in the wifes closet, 2 in the
kitchen and 2 in the living room. Generally, the shots are all very good. The
pace slowly speeds up as the short goes on, which really adds to how the
wife is feeling and how she slowly loses her mind.
The score takes a more subtle approach in this short, focusing more on
visuals.
Make me a sandwich Is a well-made short, however it’s only horror-esque
instead of a proper horror film. It seems to take the more gross route, rather
than the scary/jump-scare route, gradually building suspense over time and
not having a huge release very suddenly. It’s made gross by the constant
close ups of the husband’s mouth when he’s eating, and the ending with the
husbands decomposing corpse, surrounded by mouldy sandwiches of
course.
