PROPOSAL

What mode of production do you intend on producing? (Short film / Music video / stop motion)
My production is a music video within a short film. The story is about 2 sisters who have been
separated via circumstances beyond their control, and the youngest one’s journey to bring them back
together. The production is a short film but has segments laid out in the style of a music video
(animation, cut to the beat), with a scripted scene in the middle to give some backstory as to what has
happened in the family.
Based on the performances in your previous units, what areas do you need to improve on this time
round?
My critiques were mainly about not making some things clear enough, such as the locations or what
the purpose of the fake commercials were. In this production, I should use the time I have to
distinguish what is happening without directly telling the audience, while also not having the film feel
like it is being dragged out.
Why have you chosen this production? What visual based skills do you feel it will help you to
develop?
I have chosen this production because it is different to what I have done previously on this course,
editing videos to certain songs is what I started out doing on YouTube. I also really wanted to tell a
story of two sisters since I have a really good relationship with my younger cousins who are also best
friends themselves. I’d like to use some long and tracking shots in my production during the
characters journey, and some slow zooming in and out shots, and a unique animation style to match
the lyrics of the song used. I can also use colour correction to convey a gloomy mood at times.
Why have you chosen this production? What sound based skills do you feel it will help you to
develop?
Most of the audio in the short film will be from songs, but I could always use some ADR if the audio
doesn’t come out clearly during the scripted scene. I can use sound effects for the quieter moments to
convey the feel of the moment, such as a creaking swing set with soft wind sounds to convey a lonely
mood at the start.
